It was midafternoon in the Pride Lands; the sun was high, the grass was green, and the young prince of the Pride Lands was running all around, trying to find his best friend. His father, the king, had just shown him the kingdom this morning, particularly a very special place. A very special, shadowy place.

"That is beyond our borders. You must never go there, Nathan." His father had told him.

The young green lion with brown eyes smirked at the flashback of the conversation. Just watch me, Dad. I'm gonna be as strong as you are and I'll do it by going there!

But first, he had to find Morgan.

He searched all around Pride Rock. She wasn't at the bottom where the other lionesses would normally be at. She wouldn't be at the den, he knew. He searched again at the bottom just to make sure that he didn't just miss her before. She still wasn't there. He was confused, where could she be at...?

Suddenly, he felt a set of paws pouncing on him, "oof!" He grunted. When he opened his eyes, he looked up to see a brown lion with piercing blue eyes staring back down at him with a smirk.

"Once again, I've pinned ya down, Nate!"

"Yeah, yeah Morgan, I get it. Now let me up!"

Morgan laughed as she let Nate up. He rolled his eyes as he was getting back on all fours and stretched out. "I've been looking for you. I want to show you something neat!"

"And where is this neat something?"

Nate and Morgan looked behind them to find both of their mothers. They had been good friends ever since both Nate and Morgan had been born, thus making them friends, as well.

"Oh! It's um...it's at the waterhole!" Nate stumbled.

"The waterhole?! What's so great about the waterhole?" Morgan asked Nate. He replied with a look that said "you'll see. Just play along." Morgan smirked, showing that she got the idea and looked back up at her mother. "Mom, can I go along with Nate to the waterhole?"

"I don't know Morgan..." Her mother replied.

"Please!" Both Nate and Morgan said at the same time.

"Hmmm...alright. It's fine with me." Nate's mother replied.

"Yes!"

"But only if Matthew comes with."

"Oh no, not Matt!!" Nate cried out.

"Alright, hurry and go on to do your thing. The quicker you get it over with, the sooner we can leave." Matt, the bird with green and brown feathers with also brown eyes, said with a sarcastic tone. He was flying ahead of Nate and Morgan, keeping lead and making sure that they don't stray away.

"So, what's this cool thing that you wanted to show me, Nate?" Morgan asked.

"Well, my dad showed me this dark shadowy place, but it's forbidden to go. I learned that it's actually an elephant graveyard," Nate whispered back.

"An elephant WHAT?!"

"Shhhhhh! Matt's right there!"

"Oops, sorry! But that's so cool!"

"Yeah! But we got to keep it a secret."

"Right! So, how are we going to ditch the bird?"

Matt could only hear hushed whispering between the pair. He smiled as he turned around and landed in front of Nate and Morgan. "Ah, love is certainly in the air on this fine day," he said.

"Excuse me?" Nate asked.

"That's right!" Matt replied, "you two have been engaged since you have been born."

Nate and Morgan looked at each other then back at Matt, "meaning?" Morgan asked.

"Meaning that when you two grow up, you're going to marry each other!" Matt grinned.

"What?! Ew, no!" Nate said.

"I can't do that to Nate, we're best friends!" Morgan added.

"You can and you will! Your parents have agreed that you two will be the next to take the throne. An heir and heiress are needed to keep the kingdom in order. It's in the rulebook!" Matt exclaimed.

Nate smirked, "Well, when I'm king and get to edit that rulebook, that'll be the first thing to go." Morgan laughed.

"Ha! As long as I'm around, that rule isn't going to change." Matt exclaimed.

"Well then Matt, I then hereby consider you as no longer a servant to the king," Nate replied back sarcastically.

"Nice attempt, but I'm afraid only the true king can call out such an order."

"Well, he's the future king; doesn't that count?" Morgan asked.

"Yeah! So that means you'll have to do whatever I tell you!" Nate said.

"Not yet! With the way you're acting now, you're starting to seem like a pretty poor heir." Matt said.

"Heh, not in my book," Nate replied back with a smirk.
