Slaves were treated unfairly for many reasons. Some of them are in this small article in front of you. Slaves lived in dark cabins they didn't have Windows, furniture was homemade, and the families had to cook their own meals. Most slaves became sick because of poor food and housing. Clothing were made of hard fabric, and they didn't get new clothes every year. They had to wear these clothes for long periods of time. On top of that they were treated like property, NOT people. Only a few slaves even got the chance to learn to read and write. For punishments, they might get whipped or branded, and a community didn't decide if the slave was guilty or not, the owner does. All men, women, and children were forced to work from sunrise to sunset everyday. Most of the time the length of life was a lot shorter then the life of the average white man, woman, or child.
