I turn towards the door, as I still hear the S.S banging on it. Grabbing my few belongings and some food, I slowly climb out the back window, hoping they won't hear my movement. I say a silent prayer, hoping that God will protect my parents. As I'm running towards the woods, I say a silent goodbye to the life I knew. I hear them break the door open, then have shouts of anger. They know I escaped, I start to run faster. Thank goodness it's not winter, so I don't have any tracks to cover up. Thankfully I'm the fastest girl in my grade, or I wouldn't have a chance. Eventually they gave up, and I set up camp.

I never realized how much I hated being alone until now, the woods seem to whisper my name with every breeze. Every tree looks like a Nazis coming to kill me for my religion, I wish I was back in Berlin, with things like they used to be. When I woke up in the morning, I immediately started walking, I had somewhat of an idea of where I was. It wasn't a very thick forest, so I had to make sure I avoided the road. I also had to make sure to ration my food, I wasn't really sure how I was going to deal with being hungry. My parents had always made sure I had enough to eat even if they weren't eating, I hope they're okay, I think to myself.
