The cafeteria was obnoxiously loud as the blond looked at the material before her. Blue eyes scanning the words again and again as the words struggled to stay in her brain. Her elbows sat on the table while her hands clutched the sides of her head. A tray of food long forgotten across from her. What was this?! She had been right, automatic F in Economics. Only three days in and no grades were marked yet, but she might as well be failing. The material was only given yesterday and she was completely lost. Students hurried around and ate their lunches while chatting about the latest gossip and juicy news. They were totally unaware of the turmoil and stress the only blond in the crowd was experiencing. On top of that the looks cast her way were getting to her. She hated to be watched. With all the distractions facing her she didn't notice someone walk up behind her until it was too late.

A hand tapped her shoulder, "Ruby?"

Said girl jumped in her seat and turned to face the owner of the voice. The sudden turn made her smack her knee under the table and she held it with a whimper as she looked up into dark black eyes. She blinked, "Oh, hello Izu."

Izu smirked before sitting down next to her, "See you don't have your work done." He shook his head, eyes closed and a mischievous smile on his lips. "Only your third day and you're already screwing up, you need help."

Her eyes lit up and she looked at him a little hopeful, yet doubtful. "Would you be willing to help me? Just to get it done?" She hoped that he would say yes, but with what she has learned about him, there will be a price for help.

As if reading her mind he chuckled, "You're new, so I'll help you for free." Taking the book from her he flipped through the pages and stopped at one of them. Izu held up the book and pointed to a small drawing on one of the blank spaces. It was an owl. A small chibi owl waving with a speech bubble that said 'Hello!' Ruby blushed and hid it with her hand as she looked away stubbornly. She expected for him to laugh like mad and make fun of her. What she heard was nothing of the sort. A soft chuckle emanated from him, "Maybe you should try paying attention instead of drawing owls, huh?"

Refusing to meet his mischievous eyes she pouted and looked away, blush barely visible. "Owls are so much better than what Muramoto Sensei says."

"Don't let him hear you say that. You'll have detention until you graduate." He chuckled and pulled out a notebook from his backpack. Sliding it to her he grinned, "Here, copy it for now. I can help you study tomorrow, if you pay attention in class."

Izu watched as her eyes lit up and she took the notebook from him. "Thanks!" He expected her to jump for joy and hug him, but instead he received a light punch to the shoulder. Different. But not unlikable. He grinned watching as the blond copied down the work into her own notebook and took a few notes of her own. She was different. He liked that. A smirk worked it's way onto his lips as he watched her continue her work, completely ignoring him or the time being. Several minutes later the slam of a textbook woke Izu from his daydreams. Ruby let out a long loud sigh, "Thank God that's over!" Turning to him, she handed him the notebook with a smile on her face, "Thank you very much Izu!"

The smile he was receiving was enough to make him speechless. No girl had smiled at him like that before, and he could not deny that she looked extremely cute that way. Eyes slightly wide, he nodded and took the notebook back from her. She then gathered up her stuff and smiled at him again before saying goodbye and walking away. Izu sat at the table and watched her as she left, and he didn't care who noticed. The one thing he did notice about her was how nice her behind looked in the gold school uniform. This thought caused him to smirk again as she disappeared out of his view.
