Introduction
The day was a hot day in May and the day I found out... The big secret that my parents have been keeping from me for 2 months. They have been helping slaves to Maine on the Underground Railroad ( or train ) and know I am so afraid. What if they get caught? What will happen to me ... And my parents!?
The country side of Remsen New York does not have many people there is only 2 houses one my road and my road is very long , about a mile and a half. My house has only been here ever since 1795. My grandfather built this house, his name is Dr. Robert Maurice. My uncle built a house just over the hill, Griffith Maurice or Maurice Griffith, there was a lot of people named Griffith in 1795. My mom is Anne and she married my dad Griffith Prichard. I have 3 other siblings, John, Robert Jr., and Maurice. I am in unable to talk with my mouth so I talk with my hands and also I cannot hear in my ears.
Church
Today I got to bring my parasol to church, it was very sunny when we walked in I noticed that there where soldiers and there where looking for someone. They where asking for a man, named Griffith... Griffith Prichard. I could hear my heart beat in my chest, then I saw the soldiers take my father away. I feel tears fall down my face. I run up to my father and give him a hug, he tells me something but I do not understand.
After church we came home and our house was destroyer. The soldiers must have came and looked for the slaves then my mom looked in the secret place. She came back I could see relief on her face they must have not found the slaves. Then mom talked with her hands like I do and said " we must get out of this place and help the slaves to Maine...
