I sat down in the corner of the room. I saw my father crouching next to mother, whispering in her ear. She just lay there, her skin a sickly pale and her eyes dazed over. But she turned to her side and whispered something back to father. He turned around, his eyes teary and gestured me over. I slowly got up , my feet were so numb and I was on the verge of a meltdown. I knew there was not much time left for mother. I crouch down next to her and she looks into my eyes. "My Ella, I want you to know something." She rasps. Tears flow down my face as she keeps talking " You are the kindest and brightest person I know-", "You must not be cruel and you must be as kind to the next as you were to me." She smiled and took my hand. "Do you promise?" She asked? I stayed silent. But eventually I gave in."Yes Mama, I promise" She let go of my hand and closed her eyes. "I love you my little pumpkin." Then she was gone. I could here my father sobbing behind me and my own tears where hot against my cheeks. "I love you too Mama". I whispered into her ear.I was overwhelmed with grief and anger. Why Mama? Why did the person I loved most have to be taken away from me? That is when I first realized what I must do. "I'm sorry Mother." , "I will have to break our promise."....
