CHAPTER ONE
I feel as though my legs are about to fall off but I can't stop running. If I lose him again I just might drop dead. He is my everything. He is my hero, my love, and the only thing I care about. Now he's leaving and it's all my fault. If I hadn't hollered at him we wouldn't have gotten into a fight and he wouldn't have left. I have no clue where he lives so I'm trying to chase him down as he's driving away. He stopped. Oh god he's backing up. He's going to hit me!
The last thing I remember was a very bright light. Then I'm on a hospital bed. He comes in. "Doctor! She's awake!".
"Great I'm going to have to ask you to leave" the doctor said in the most serious tone I've ever heard.
"No! I can't leave her I did this and now I'm going to have to deal with it" he said.
"What have you done to me?!" I scream realizing that I'm in a lot of pain.
"I accidentally ran you over".
"Well I know that you ran me over but was it actually an accident?". There was a long awkward silence as he tried to gather his thoughts.
"I didn't realize you were chasing me and when I did I backed up to get you and apologize but I didn't hit the breaks in time. I'm soooo sorry, Moon". At that moment he started bawling.
"Baby please don't cry. First of all I should be apologizing to you and second I wouldn't care if you ran me over a million times as long as you stay with me". He stopped sobbing.
"Can you ever forgive me?" he asked.
"Of course I forgive you, Taylor. I could never stay mad at you. You're the only person I've ever loved and ever will love".
I was fine and left the hospital two days after the accident. My mom finally let me move in with Taylor, under one condition. I have to call twice a week and visit once a week. Everything was good until my mother got sick. It lasted two days before it killed her. The funeral cost more than we could afford and now I'm working three part-time jobs.
Taylor travels a lot and I'm cursed because every time he leaves I get sick and slowly die, but as soon as he gets home I'm perfectly healthy. My mother says that this has been in our family for many generations. My mother survived the longest out of all of my female ancestors when her husband, my father, died. Five years.
I just hope that if Taylor dies before me I can live longer. I want to grow old with gray hairs and wrinkles. I want to be able to see my grandchildren, if I have any. Taylor doesn't know about this curse but I want him too. But if he knows, he'll quit his job and have to get a new one. I don't want that for him because he loves his job and it pays a lot.
I've decided I will have to tell him eventually so why not now. Taylor comes home from his longest business trip today. I'll tell him when he gets home. Now I'm having second thoughts. What if he thinks I'm crazy or thinks that it would be best for him to leave and actually does leave? What will I do?
At that very moment Taylor walks in. "Taylor, there's something I have to tell you and you can't freak out. OK?".
"Yeah go ahead".
"Taylor there's a curse that runs through the females in my family and I have this curse too" then he starts laughing hysterically.
"Nice one Moon" but when I didn't start laughing his expression goes completely serious. "You are joking, right?". I sigh.
"No, I'm not. My mother has lasted the longest since my father died. Every time you leave i get sick and could potentially die".
After a few hours he finally got it. "So every time I leave you slowly die? Isn't that painful?".
"I guess it can be but it depends on how long you're gone". There's a long silence.
"So should I quit my job?" .
"No of course not. Isn't there a way you could keep the job and not have to travel?" I asked.
"I don't know. I never found out. I'll call in the morning and see. OK?", he was so sincere, and concerned, and caring so of course I had to say yes.
"Of course, but right now we should get some rest. Goodnight Taylor".
"Goodnight Moon".
In the morning he called and found out that if he used his laptop from work that he could video chat with the people he works with so he doesn't have to leave home. So he asked his boss if that's what he could do. His boss just thought that it would mean one less ticket for the flights. So he could keep his job without ever leaving home.
"Moon, why didn't you tell me before? I mean yeah, we're not married or engaged, so I really don't have a right to personal things like this about your family, but why'd you wait this long?"
"At first I thought it wouldn't really matter but then when you got your job it got worse".
"What do you mean by it got WORSE?"
"Well its only been a couple of weeks since the accident and when you drove away that's when it started"
"Well at least you told me. It's better than not knowing at all. Right?"
"If I hadn't you wouldn't have known until you had a trip where you were gone long enough for it to kill me and you came home to me dead on the floor. So yes, it is good that I told you this".
"Does anyone else know?" he asked.
"Yes".
"Who?"
"The women who gave this family this curse".
"You mean she's still alive?" his eyes were wide open and his jaw dropped.
"Yes".
