"I dont want to go back!!" I complained to my mom. "You've had two weeks off, Ash its time for you to go back" Mom turned into the drive way of my Elementary school. "Aren't you excited to see Brooke and Aspen?" She added as I grabbed my pink and purple backpack and matching lunch tote. "Yes!!" I jumped up in down in my seat. This is throwing it back to 2nd grade, and Aspen and Brooke were my elementary school best friends. "Bye mommy" I kissed her on the cheek and hugged her. "Have a great day!" Mommy waved to me as I skipped off towards the building.
I walked to my classroom, room 9. "Welcome back Ashlynn!" My teacher Miss. Riley greeted me at the doorway. "Hope you had a great holiday!" I smiled and went to hang up my bookbag in the cubbies. I saw Brooke and Aspen and went over to talk to them before the bell rang. "What are you talking about?" I ran over and jumped on the desk. "Theres a new kid coming" Brooke said. "Is it a girl? Maybe she can be in our group!!" I clapped my hands in joy, hoping we could find a new best friend. "I dont know" Brooke shrugged. We moved on to another topic, talking about all the toys we got for Christmas and such.
The bell rang. Everyone ran to their seats so Miss. Riley wouldn't get angry. "I hope all your vacations were filled with happiness and joy!!" Miss. Riley closed the door. "We will be having a new student join us today. His name is Caleb, I expect you all to be nice and welcoming. Understood?" Miss Riley looked to see if we are shaking our heads yes. I groaned. "Ashlynn is something wrong?" She looked over at me. "Nothing" I answered shortly. "Why the groan then? Explain yourself" She urged me on. "Its just I wanted the new kid to be a girl so we could be friends" I played with the button on my sweater. "Who says you cant be friends with opposite gender?" Miss. Riley questioned. "Now you and Tyler will go pick up Caleb from the office and you will be nice" She said.
"I hope this kid is nice" I mumbled when we were in the hall. Tyler nodded his head, not saying a word. When we walked into the office there was a kid with brown hair sitting in the office chair. "Um we are here to pick up the new kid. Caleb?" I hoped I said the right name. "Oh yes this is him, are you okay Caleb?" The principal asked. "Yes thank you" Caleb picked up his baseball shaped bookbag and we walked back to the classroom. "You play baseball?" I asked. "Yes. Do you??" He asked back. "No but my brothers do" I answered. "You look nervous, dont be. Most of the kids are nice" I tried to sound comforting. "Not all of them?" He asked. "Well I am" I said and laughed.
