The -A Game

Chapter 7

Whispering filled the halls of Rosedale High. Practically everybody in the school was talking about the funeral that happened on Sunday. Everybody except Aneesha, Ella, Jessica and Taylor because they didn't feel any better at all talking about it and when they brought up the funeral, they just kept thinking about that -A text and what it all meant.

"Ok, so you all might be willing to let this go because we haven't gotten a text from this -A person in 3 days but I'm not because this person is still out there and probably watching us outside of school too!" Jessica said desperately to the others, looking for someone to agree with what she was saying. Taylor looked at Jessica and then looked at her watch which read: 8:20am. "Look, I agree with you Jess and I'll come over to your house tonight and maybe we can look for something that gives us a lead but I have to go, Ive got to get my books ready for 1st period. Sorry, bye and I'll see you all in English!" Taylor quickly rushed on down the hall. Ella then turned around at looked at them and opened her mouth to talk, "Yeah, I'll go too because I want to find this person and we could find evidence pointing towards a person that we could track down and we need to talk about Anna as much as it hurts." Aneesha them came to a complete halt and stared at both of them with really big eyes and no facial expression and said in a hushed voice, "Are you serious? I agree we need to talk about Anna but what exactly do you think you're all going to find at Jess's house that could help us find out who -A is? We know absolutely nothing about this person only that their name starts with an -A or does it? -A could stand for anything! Anonymous! A secret! Anything at all so what you think you're just going to find a note reading: 'Hi my name is Angela and I am -A, congratulations!' No, that's not going to happen and you know it. Sorry I'm being harsh on you but it's the truth and this person is serious! I have to get to class, see you both later." Aneesha said having some truth in what she was saying and both Ella and Jessica knew that.

At Taylor's locker, Laura and Taylor were talking about Religion homework when a small figure came running up to her and anyone could tell that it was Sabrina who was the smallest girl in their year. Sabrina gave a quick wave and stopped, "Okay, so what do you want to do after school today? Shopping? Shopping? Or um let me see... Shopping?" She said looking at Taylor with a bright and bubbly attitude. Laura started laughing because she thought it was ridiculous how a girl could possibly go shopping as much as she did. "None of the above, thanks. In case you haven't noticed we have a huge maths test tomorrow that I have to study for." Taylor said in a sort of serious tone toward Sabrina but Sabrina just looked confused at what she was saying. "What?" Sabrina asked. Laura decided to join the conversation, "She said you have a huge maths test tomorrow..." Sabrina then smiled and looked at Taylor and started laughing really loudly and then stared back at Laura. "Yeah, I heard what she said I was just pretending not to because a lot of the time she just doesn't make sense at all. Okay, so you have two options. Shopping or studying for a maths test? SHOPPING!" People in the hall started giggling and looking at the trio standing in the hall. "Yeah fine I guess you're right." Taylor said, closing her locker door and smiling at Sabrina as she knew Sabrina would have won the conversation eventually. "Really? I mean of course I am, I am always right and you should know that by now!" Sabrina said with confidence and having a bright look on her face at the same time. "Now, I suggest you leave and get to class before I change my mind about the whole situation." Taylor said with a bit of a giggle. Sabrina then scurried towards her locker and didn't look back. "Really?" Laura asked Taylor and both of them laughed and walked to Religion.

English came in second period and all of the girls sat in their seats and pulled out the book they were studying, 'How to kill a Mockingbird.' Aneesha decided to sit next to Kenze because she hadn't spoken to her in a while. Sabrina, Laura, Eden, Kenze, Jessica, Ella, Aneesha and Taylor were all friends but some of them didn't communicate anymore as in Aneesha and Sabrina and Taylor and Kenze because only Jessica, Ella, Aneesha and Taylor were really close with Anna because she knew all of their secrets but they knew none of hers. Anna practically dragged them away from the rest of their friends and they were best friends with Anna from there. Kenze looked at Aneesha but they didn't say anything to each other. The teacher was talking to them about how they responded to the book and was getting different students' feedback. "Okay what about you Mackenzie? What did you feel about the book and what characters in particular stood out to you?" Mrs Parley asked Mackenzie as she was one of her brightest students. "Yes, of course. I have prepared some cards that have some quotes that I thought stood out from the text and made me feel part of the plot." Mackenzie opened her book to a bunch of palm cards. "When-" Mackenzie's words were cut short because her phone started buzzing and playing her message ringtone. She stopped and scrambled her phone out of her pocket while the teacher was walking up to her desk to confiscate it and most likely give her a detention as much as she liked Mackenzie. Mrs Parley was definitely disappointed in Mackenzie because this had never happened before. "Mackenzie, hand me your phone now or I will send you to the principals office as well as detention." Mackenzie looked at the teacher and started panicking but before she handed it to her she read the message, it read:

Wow, teachers pet, Woof woof cried the bitch, being you of course. Hope those palm cards are useful in detention. Confused? That would be a first I thought you were all A's but don't worry just ask Jessica, Ella, Aneesha and Taylor.

Mackenzie picked up her books and ran out of the classroom before tears could start pouring out of her eyes and what was worse for her was that she knew Aneesha saw the text message on her phone before she handed it to the teacher.

Back in class, the bell had just went for recess but every student was going home early because the interviews for the whole school were happening all day. They all rushed to get out of the classroom door but Aneesha stopped Jessica, Ella and Taylor in the hall. "I read what was on Kenze's phone when it went off in class and I'm sorry for what I said before I was totally wrong because Kenze just got a text from -A." All three girls gasped in shock and confusion and just when they thought -A hadn't been onto them in 3 days, one of their friends gets a text. "I don't get it though" Taylor told the other girls, "I mean, we got texts to do with Anna but Kenze didn't know Anna as well as us so how come she got one?" Taylor asked the others with curiosity but none of them knew the answer to that question. "Now we definitely have to work out who this maniac is! C'mon lets all go to my house now." Jessica told them but Taylor sighed and held them back. "I'm sorry, I completely forgot I said I would go shopping with Sabrina but I'll cancel now and say I have to go out with my mum. This is too important." Just when Taylor turned around to go and find Sabrina with the girls, a small figure was standing in her way, Sabrina. "What are you talking about? Who's -A and why did you get texts? Tell me right now or I will tell everyone about Mackenzie's text in class, I'm sure she would thank you all for that." Sabrina said with a harsh tone and all of them stared at each other, how were they going to get out of this one without explaining -A? "Now go. You have 10 seconds to start explaining."
