I stared out the big window on the right side of the class room. The Utah mountains were covered in such a thick fog, they weren't even visible.
The valley actually looked flat, boring.
I let out a long sigh.
"Is their something you'd like to add, Ms. Carter?" Mr. Dev, the history teacher, questioned. Even though he knew I didn't, and he just wanted to embarrass me, he still stared at me waiting for a response.
I could feel my cheeks burning up as the class stared at me.
"Uh no,no I'm good." I said, suddenly feeling conscious about well, everything.
I tugged at the bottom of my volleyball t-shirt, and brushed my fingers through my hair.
"That's what I thought." He sighed too, also seeming bored as he continued his lesson.
I let a little sigh of relief escape me as people stopped looking at me, and drew their attention back to their notebooks and doodles.
I looked back outside the rainy Fall day and closed my eyes. Imaging I was outside laying on the cold, wet grass, him laying next to me.
I smiled at the thought. I wonder what he looks like. Maybe he's tall, dark, and mysterious. Or maybe he has blonde, curly hair with light blue eyes.
"Rackelle! {pronounced ra-kell}" Casey spoke in a harsh whisper as she jabbed me in the side.
"Huh?!" I jerked awake from my daydream.
"Were you dreaming about that mystery boy again?!" She teased.
"No! I just... well I... Never mind. What's going on"? I looked around to see that the other students in my history class were packing up.
"School's almost out."
"What?!" Man, I have got to stop dreaming in class!
I put my pencil and notebooks away, and waited for my friend to do the same.
"So, you gonna email him when you get home, or are you going to wait for him to email first" she said as she searched through her blue backpack for her phone.
"I dunno. It doesn't really matter either way." Okay, ya that totally wasn't true. It totally mattered! If I came home to see he had emailed me, that would probably mean he was thinking of me, and this wasn't a totally one-sided 'relationship'.
"Oh please Ray, I know you. You actually really want him to email you, you're just to embarrassed to say".
"Wow! You really do know me!" We laugh as we grab our bags and head out into the crowded high school halls.
"Heeyyy!" Justice smiled and ran up to us.
"Hiiii!" We smile back.
"Sorry guys, gotta go! Debate!" Casey says and we wave bye.
"So, whatcha doing after volleyball tonight"?! Justice asks as he leans against the locker next to mine, hands in his pockets.
"Ummm... Homework, homework, and oh um homework." I say as I put books away into my locker.
"Oh. What a shame, I was hoping you'd wanna come over and we could watch a movie or something. Hey, maybe you could just bring your homework". We start to walks towards the gym where Justice always drops me off before practice.
"Sorry! I really wish I could, but day dreaming during class is really making me fall behind. Tonight's not going to work."
"Aw. Okay." He says, putting up his disappointed face and pretending to get teary eyed.
"Stop it! You're gong to make me feel bad." We laugh as I punch him jokingly.
"Don't forget to spike the ball tonight and stuff", Justice smiles as we arrive to the gym.
"Lol. You're adorkable when you try to talk volleybally." He blushes.
"Well, see ya later!" He gives a little wave as I walk into the dressing room.
"Byeeee".
I quickly change into my volleyball clothes and knee pads. 5 minutes before practice actually starts. I guess checking my email won't hurt....
His newest email reads:
Hello gorgeous!
How was your day?! I hope you didn't day dream too much during class today;).
Can you believe in 4 days, on Friday, it will be 3 years since we started this pen pal project! I remember when we first started the project. I hated the idea! But, now, I look back and I'm so grateful for the assignment or else I probably never would have never met you! It's nice to know I have someone who I can completely trust and who's always there for me. Now, I'm thinking for our 3 year anniversary, we meet in person, what do you say;)
Yours truly,
that_guy77
My heart starts racing at the thought of us meeting. It was a nice thought, but I knew it probably wouldn't happen.
I check my clock. I have 3 minutes to respond before I have to run laps around the gym. I quickly start to write my reply.
