"From the beginning, light prevailed over darkness, good over evil. But tell me, Levi, when has life ever been fair to you?"
"Boss,"
...
"Boss,"
....
"Boss!"
"What?"
"C'mon! Get up! It's nine A.m. And if Eliza finds out that you overslept she'll feed you your backside!"
You'd think that I'd be used to this by now. But nah. I rush out of bed, grab whatever clothes fall out of my wardrobe, and run off to work before my higher up kills me. All pretty normal, for me anyway. My name is Levi Akagitsune, I'm a mercenary at the biggest guild this side of the west wall, and the understudy to one of its best. Who also happens to enjoy beating the living crap out of me. The thing about this world is you can never be surprised, anything, and I mean anything, could happen to you. I knew a guy who got struck by lightning, thrice, he can't walk now but that's not the point. I ran at top speeds out of my small apartment on the edge of town, dragging my rather disgruntled fox with me. His name is Hiroshima, or Hiro to some. He's a tinker fox, which is perfect for a budding mechanic like myself, which comes in handy when you grow up in the east. Factory's and metalworks as far as the eye can see, miles and miles of smoke grey sky and a small layer of ash on the ground at all times. Lovely. But now isn't the time for that, and since I enjoy my head to stay planted firmly on my shoulders, I need to be going. The guild is slap bang in the middle of town inside of a huge open market square, stalls selling a multitude of things, ranging from: low gluten, fat free, carb free, food free air to the biggest damn swords in the world. All of them can be found here, but since I'm an understudy I am not allowed close to the nice pointy things. Then again I don't really need them, I specialise in fire and combustion based magic: the combustion can range from lava plumes to setting a nearby haystack on fire using electrical plumes; whereas the whole 'fire' thing is as it says on the tin. If it was only that simple. I run up to the huge double doors of the guild, trying to suck back down my lungs and lean up against the doorway. The guild is huge, it's like five stories tall and as big as a football field, everyone knows it's here, many of the members take the saying, "take it outside" to a whole new level. Remember the lightning guy? Yeah, thanks to him the town is now a Thunder-magic free zone. But yeah, I tumble through the doors, weaving in and out of all the tables in the large hall and sneak over to the bar. By the looks of it, Eliza wasn't there, thank fuck, and Mai was on duty. She's the bar maid. She saw me as soon as I hid behind one of the stools, "don't worry Levi, she's not here yet,"
"Oh my gods," I sigh, falling onto the stool,
"I think she called by your flat though," she smirked as I felt the blood run from my face. She only came to my house if I had done something extremely bad, like the time I blew up a factory... Well, I wasn't completely my fault. I could feel her steel clad footsteps stomping on the ground as she got closer and closer to the guild, I must've looked like a ghost by then. The doors to the guild swung open and I turned to see her, I shit you not, I was pissing myself. She had short, choppy, black hair and stormy grey eyes. She had a long jagged scar that rad all the way down her face, rumour has it, it goes all down her left side to her heel, and she was clad in steel armour that didn't help the way she was glaring at me, "boss?" Hiro asked me, "if you die, can I have all of your motor oil?"
"Now really isn't the time!" I squeaked as Eliza drew closer and closer. She stopped around thirty centimetres from me, the cold air around her clung to my skin, "Akagitsune," she growled, raising her hand. I flinched, curling into a foetal position, then I felt her gloved hand ruffle my hair, "good work the other day, you did better than I thought you would." Holy. Shit. Eliza walked over to a table in the far side of the room, sitting down opposite some of her friends as I felt a second presence next to me. "Surprised you're alive, Akagitsune," ugh. I lifted my head and met the amethyst eyes of the biggest pain in my ass, Damion Okami. He sent me a toothy grin as me looked down at me, to describe him, the word I would use would be. Wolf-ish. Literally. Damion was something called a half-beast, humans born with animalistic attributes, and Damion came from a long line of businessmen, miners and jewellers, all of which were half-beasts. If you didn't catch on earlier, he was a wolf, snowy white ears and a tail to match his hair. Now don't get me wrong, he was alright, but he could be a pain sometimes, he was currently having an issue with his older brother on housing, so I hooked him up with a friend to help him with some quests, but he's a cocky bastard. No doubt about that. But this is normal. Well... Was. Everything changed when they walked, or should I say, smashed, their was into the hall.
