"No Strings Attached" First string

“Thank you for the offer but, I prefer to decline it, I’m sorry Alex. I really don’t think I can manage to portray the character of a gay for I am not one” I tried to reason out as I try to calm her by reaching her hands.

“But, Jake the author of this book personally requested you. He said he won’t allow the book to be in film if it’s not you.”

“Really? Why?” I ask as my brows wrinkled.

“Actually, there are only two famous actors including you he personally selected and I don’t have the slightest idea why?”She answered while waving her hands.

“Is that so? Tell me Sam, who is the other one he selected?” I raise my index finger and gently push my glasses. Yeah, I wear glasses. My vision started to fail me when I was young, since then I always wear glasses if not, then contact lens during taping.

“Well, doesn’t be surprise but its Tyler Stevens” She said almost in whisper.

I automatically look at my manager that is just sitting beside me listening to my conversation with Samantha.

“Tyler? The heir to Stevens Entertainment, one of the biggest entertainment company in the country?” My manager interrupted.

“Yup, yup” Alexa nodded.

Tyler Stevens, the rich brat who is my rival in many entertainment awards. People around us in this industry always compare us. Well, let me tell you something. I work my butt off to be where I am now. I strive hard to get the recognition I deserve. I was recognized in this industry earlier than him, my experience is farther than his. I dedicated my life to acting, but him?  I bet he became an established actor without wasting a single sweat. He’s just a happy go lucky rich brat who does anything he’s ego tells him. Became famous effortlessly for he was one of those we call “Born with a silver spoon”. He climbed the ladder of success with his family’s connection. He doesn’t even need to work with all the money in the bank his family have.

 I wonder why the people always compare him to me. Yup, this guy has an enormous number of fans, they say its cause of his charm and his witty personality. Oh give me a break. When you’re rich, you definitely make the world go round especially in the field where I belong.

I pouted my lips as a sign of complaint. “Not again, why does it have to be him? With all the actors with potential we have”

“Let’s face it honey, Stephan. The guy has the looks and the potential. You know how the crowd gets wild every time both of you happens to appear in an event.” My manager, Rica reasoned out.  She is actually is a Vatican manager of many talents in the industry including me. She is a 32 year old wife and is happily married with their twin children.

“Yeah, I heard many products wanted both of you to become their endorser, but you always decline.” Samantha added gaping at me.

“Why is that huh? Are you afraid to be outshined by him huh? Steph?”  She leaned closer to me while hitting me with his right elbow.

“Hmmpp. Don’t make me laugh. I’m a very hard working and disciplined actor, why in the world do they always compare me to that spoiled brat?” I know, I sound so ignorant, but my pride won’t allow it.

“I heard he was very much thrilled when he found out you are his rival for the said role. So why don’t you prove him wrong for even challenging you?”

“You think so?”

“Why not dear? You should at least break the tie” Rica said with his soothing voice. She always has the effect on someone that makes them relaxed and composed. I really like listening to her voice, she sounds like my mom.

“But Rica, It’s a gay themed film! How am I supposed to act if I don’t have any idea what it means to be gay?:

“Don’t worry , you said it yourself that you’re way better than him. Then show how versatile you are” Sam with her wide excited eyes blurted.

Do I have to do this? What if I fail? What if I won’t be chosen? Dang it! This is the main reason why I hate being compared to that guy. I always end up pretending to be confident and composed but deep  inside, I’m scared to be rejected . I always become pessimistic when it comes to my rivalry with him. But I wont admit it.  Of course he can outshine me, why? His new in this field which only means his fresh in the eyes of the public. But still, I am way better than him in so many areas.

So what now? Stephan? What your decision? Will you turn around and decline that offer? But this will only make that brat think that his way better than me, that I’m afraid of him, right?

“When do we discuss the deal?” I already decided. That I wont run away from the challenge. This film will be a big challenge for me but this would definitely be a big achievement if I succeed.

“Yes!” Alex almost jump as she said those words.
