My name is Melody Skylar Barren. But they call me Sky. I'm 17. I'm a rebel. Plus I'm bisexual. I love guys and girls. People don't like me because of it. I just roll my eyes at them.

I was walking down the hallway when this girl came up to me and said "I heard what you did to Warren. That's a shame."

I told her "Well, he got what he deserves."

She tells me "You're such a bitch."

That's when I punched her and that's how I end up in the principal's office.

****

I sat in the principal's office until my so-called mother came. She looked me up and down with those blood-shot eyes. I knew she was smoking before she got here. She's always smoking. She smokes pot. She's probably high as we speak.

"Ms. Barren, may we have a word," the principal asked her.

My mother kept looking at me and laughed. She turn to my principal. She walks in the principal's office joking and laughing with him.

I shook my head. Where was my brother when I needed him? He was only nineteen. Two years older than me. He didn't graduate high school because he came to school high all the time. He smoked pot and meth. He still does. He even deals drugs and he's probably doing it right now. He was even-

"MELODY BARREN!," my mother yelled at me. I cringed at my birth name. I hate it so much. My dad used to call me Melody when I was little. He died in a car accident.

"What?," I said, smirking.

"You're grounded," she said. She walk through the main doors making me follow her.

I laughed. I got in the car. "Did you drive here high again?"

"It's rubbing off so when we get back home, just shut up ok?," she said, trying to scare me. She doesn't scare me.

"Whatever," I said.

****

I slammed the door to my room and put on loud music. I laid down and went on my phone. I saw that I had three text messages. One from Warren, one from a girl I slept with two nights ago, and a new girl.

I opened the new girl one.

New Girl: Hey, $20 for one night. Tonight. 10 pm.

I smiled and texted her back agreeing to it.

I opened the text from Warren.

I texted him back saying 'leave me alone'.

I toss my phone in anger across the room. I move from my stomach and to the back. I fell asleep like that.

*****
"MELODY!," my mother screamed at me. I turn over and laid on my stomach. I looked at my clock and it said 10:15. I slept for 9 HOURS! I sighed and got off the bed.

I walked down stairs and into the kitchen where my brother Mo was.

"Hey brother," I said to him, sitting down next to him.

"You punched a girl in the nose!," he exclaimed.

"Yeah I did." I laughed at him.

He took out a blunt and lit it. Of course. I rolled my eyes and got off the stool.

"Mel-"

"Shut up." I walked in the living room where I found my mother smoking pot.

"Sit down." She pointed at the chair in the corner with her joint. "We need to talk."

I rolled my eyes. I sat down in the chair.

"Melody-"

"Don't call me that! Call me Sky."

"Melody."

I got up and ran upstairs to get my phone and bag. I ran out the door slamming it shut. I live in a fucked up home with a fucked up family. I laughed to myself.

I looked down to my phone and saw it was cracked. Great. Now I had to get it fixed. I gotta save up. I reached into my coat and found 10 dollars in it. I reached into my bag to get my envelope. I looked inside and saw 1,000 dollars. Maybe I do have enough money to fix my phone. I'll do it tomorrow.

I saw a store a couple blocks down. I walked to it.

****

"That will be 15.00," the cashier said, looking at me all funny. I sighed. I didn't have enough.

"Miss, 15?," the store clerk said, with an annoying attitude.

"Yeah, I heard you." I reached in my bag and pulled out the rest of the money. "Here you go." I handed it to him.

"Thanks, have a good day." He gave me my bag.

"You, too," I said, while walking out.

****

I sat under a bridge while I pulled out a cigarette and smoke a cigarette. I think of all the shit that I been through. Why am I who I am today? This shit doesn't make sense to me, either.

I got up and grabbed my bag and walked along the road. I live in a somewhat small town with hillbillies, pretty much. It sucks. I wish I live in New York back with my grandma. I loved her so much. She treated with the most respect than anyone. She gave me so much helpful advice along the way. But after she passed, we moved to Iowa. The shittest state in the fucking United States of America. No offense to anyone who live in Iowa. Haha.

I took one last hit of my cigarette and then threw on the ground. I stomped on it.

I exhale the cheap thin clear smoke.

Great.

I hear my phone go off.  I look at it and it's a text from the new girl.

New Girl: offer still on the table. $20. Tonight.

I texted her back. Ok.

I smiled. Cool. I'm getting laid tonight.

****

I continued to walk along the road while I eat my Rice Krispies treat that I got from the store.

(Hey. Psst. This is the future me. I'm not naming any details but I'm living a good life now. It gets better. This was the shitty life that I lived in the past.)
