Violet;

The sound of rain is supposed to be calming. It's universally known as peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable. It's not like anyone is going to tell you the downside of bad hair days and ruined picnics and gloomy moods. If anything it'll just be pegged as 'good sleeping weather' and that statement is right, deary weather is a delightful sleeping experience.

Rain is slamming doors and angry screams.

Rain is cruel tears and bloodshot eyes.

Rain is peaceful.

My parents decided to get into a screaming match once again tonight, they were yelling about how they're spending too much money on stupid things. We have the money to spare, they just need an excuse at this point. I just tap my pencil against my desk and watch the rain fall outside my window, little droplets collecting and rolling off the clear glass. Rain falls sideways almost at a slant, never straight down. If you watch it long enough, it becomes a pattern in your mind. So relaxing and peaceful.

If you ever look around when it rains, everything seems more gloomy. Almost like there was a grey shadow casted upon everything your eyes land on, the trees, the puddles and the bright cars zooming along the road. I think I've grown to love the constant cloud overcast, it's such a constant thing lately.

"Maybe if you weren't so self-centered you'd realize that this family is falling apart!" my mother always had such a dark tone during fights.

"I do everything for this family! I work so I can support this mess! I could just quit anytime, Julie!" My father never yelled. It was just loud talking, in a way. Mom's voice could over power his at anytime.

"You come home so late! You're making violet and lola think that they're unwanted!"

At least dad acknowledges us when he's home. At least he doesn't say he's too busy for us.

"I'm the only one who takes care of them! Julie, you make violet take care of lola while you are too busy getting drunk!"

My keys are always placed conveniently on a table beside my door, making it quick access to grab and run. So, that's what I do. I pull a jacket over lola's small shoulders and pick her up swiftly and find my way down the staircase.

"Where do you think your going?" My mothers judgemental eyes burn into my skull.

"The store"

"Drive safely" Dad mutters softly.

Lola squirms in my arms and twists her body around as pull the door open. Her small hand raises up and she waves happily over my shoulder, the smile never leaving her pink lips.

"Bye daddy!"

"Bye, princess." Dad answers back.

"Love you, daddy!!"

I shut the door and i could hear the fight staring again. With lola safely buckled up and humming to the radio, I pull out of the driveway and zoom away from my once happy childhood home.

The rain patters against the windshield as we start our journey. The windshield wiper pushes the droplets from my sight and it becomes a blissful pattern of pitter-patters of raindrops and the woosh of wipers.

Hold on.

The rain is still peaceful.
