Violet stood in the hall way of the unwelcoming house. She could see just into the kitchen, her parents were talking to a man in robes.

"Your daughter has a power like no other" The man began. "it needs to be nurtured"

Why are they talking about me? She wondered.

"To hell with that" her father snapped "the only thing that child is good for is bringing in money! She's going no where!" He growled, growing angry. She could see her mother recoil in the chair, fearing his next move.

It's true though, she thought, the only reason I'm still living here is because they need the money I earn from slavery.

The man sighed but a sense of calm remained "Where is she? I'd like to speak with her myself"

"I forbid it" her father stood up, asserting authority. This made Violet move farther away from the kitchen, fearing what happens next. The unknown man's head turned toward the hall, he heard her movements.

He made his way to the doorway and his eyes landed on a young girl with dark blond hair backing away from him. He could sense more fear than there was oxygen on the planet. He knelt down to Violets level.

"There is no need to be scared, youngling." He spoke in a warm tone, one Violet had never heard before. "My name is Luke Skywalker. What's yours?"

"V-Violet.."

"That's a lovely name, Violet!" He smiled warmly, a contrast to the cold house. "Now, I'm going to let you in on a secret, okay?"

This grabbed Violets attention. Her eyes widened in interest and she managed a small nod.

"You possess a great power. It will help you to do great things, but you need to learn how to use it."

Violets breath hitched a the mention of her being powerful. She had always been the weak one, the one cast aside, the unwanted. But the idea of her having power made her eyes light up. Luke's eyebrows furrowed slightly, realising that she was displaying greed, but he regained his composure knowing that she would train to know that greed is wrong.

"I'm starting up a school, there will be loads children just like you! And you'll train together, learn how to use your powers. Do you want to learn?"

Violent knew that if she went with Luke she would get away from her slavery, from her fathers cruel hands and loud shouts, and from her mothers inability to stop her fathers rage, something which Violet always resented about her mother.

"Yes. I'd love to go to the school"

Luke smiled brightly, trying hard to ignore the anger that came off of Violet. Luke turned back to her parents who were in the kitchen. "It seems your daughter will be coming with me after all" he spoke neutrally.

Her father scoffed and hastily moved to snatch his daughter arm. He dragged her across the room, away from Luke. Violet curled into a ball and her face contorted. She felt true anger. Her father was trying to take away her only way for power. She was confused and angry, a dangerous mix in the hands of an untrained Jedi.

"Violet STOP" Luke frantically screamed "STOP!!"

Violet looked up and and saw that she had been force choking her father without realising. She didn't know how to stop. Tears threatened to spill as she fell more and more out of control of her actions. Luke knelt down in front of her for the second time today and told her to calm her breathing, to close her eyes and think of something that makes her happy. Violet did as he asked. Taking deep breaths in and out while picturing a tall cliff, she wasn't scared of heights, the wind was warm and soft. The leaves in the trees shook softly and birds sung softly in the sky. She felt calm.

"YOU BITCH" Her father wheezed out while refilling his lungs rapidly of what they'd been deprived of. He fell to the floor and caught his throat, the pain to great to ignore. He hurried away from the child and managed "take her, take her away, she's..." he coughed out "..she's unwanted here anyway!!"

Luke looked at Violet with vague sympathy but mainly with caution. "We should go" he suggested.
As they left the house Violet could hear the screams of her father fading, becoming fainter, she grinned happy that she no longer had to see either of her parents. Her suffering could end. The two walked in silence, Luke too pensive about the events that just unfolded.

They reached Luke's ship and Violet climbed into the seat behind Luke's. "Ever flown before?" He enquired, although he already knew the answer was no.

"Never, but a pilot came by the store I work--worked--at once and told me a story about some magic men and them blowing up a star of death, I don't believe it though" Violets eyes lit up as she spoke about the man and his story.
Luke chuckled, knowing the pilot was more than likely a resistance pilot and was talking about the Death Star, trying to entertain a child with a story of action.

"Well, you should believe it" Violets eyebrows furrowed, why should she, it's only a story. "I was there, it's true. The 'magic men' are called Jedi, I am one, and you will be with training"

"I'm magic?!?" Violet exclaimed. Luke couldn't help but grin at the childhood innocence. "Woah.."

They took off and flew at light speed. There was little conversation, Violet too busy looking at the stars with her mouth wide open in awe to talk.
