"Jason im going on a run," I yelled," any requests?"
I slipped on my running shoes and adjusted the belt around my waist. I needed the belt since i mostly wore workout clothes, they are far easier to move in. I had custom pockets sown into the inside of my jacket for more places to put things like ammo and whatever was small enough to fit. It was slightly miscolored on the outside because I didnt really have the right color to sew in. But it works, it wont be in a fall fashion magazine though.
"Yeah, get me some new shoes, mine are more worn out than the welcome sign outside."
"Size 8 1/2 right? You want boots our running shoes?"
"Both if you can manage but running shoes. We keep having to go further and further out, coming back with less and less."
"Alright, ill put it on my list of things to get."
"Thank man."
I double-checked my bag; 3 days of food and a weeks worth of water, a multi-tool, a compass, a map, some rope, and a water filter in case I run out of water. Despite all this I had alot of room in this bag. I slipped it on and secured it. I checked my belt and made sure my hunting knife, machete, and my gun was secure. You can never be too careful. I have a few more things slipped into my jacket in case of emergency. I left the small Bed & Breakfast sorta place and started on my walk.
A few hours later and I made it to the next town.
"What are we gonna do with him?", a harsh voice said.
"Shit.", I harshly whispered, quickly hiding behind a wall as they passed.
"Could he have been on that Sub?", a young girls voice chimed in, she couldn't have been much older than me.
"I doubt it, that was a nuclear sub. The shit doesn't look that important.", the old man was holding a large chain, he dragged it towards him and a young boy came into view.
He was also around my age, at least he looked to be. He wasnt wearing a shirt and I could clearly see that he was injured. He wasnt bitten, no one would clean it up like that. He looked around solomly when he made eye contact with me. I quickly backed away into darkness. Slowly I peered back around the corner and met his eyes again. They were begging for help. I couldnt help him. But before my mind sent my decision to my body I found myself reaching for my gun. I knew what I had to d, even if I didnt want to. I pulled out my gun.
"Drop the chains and no one gets hurt." I walked out from the darkness with my gun raised high.
"Now girl, you think this trough, no on needs to get hurt," the old man said.
"Daddy just kill her and get it over with. I want this boy to be mine.", The girl said in the most annoying voice.
"Now sweetly, he will be yours dont you worry. But we cant just go around killing people. We could take her with us." the old man obviously wasnt the one in control here.
The girl looked at him and then at me and then back at him.
"No daddy, shed try and steal him away. I can see it." the girl pulled out a gun and aimed at me, but before she could get a shot off i shot her in the leg.
"Im sorry but you left me no choice," I said as her dad dropped the chain and picked up his daughter .
"I'm just thankful you didn't kill her. Ill remember your kindness."the old man said. I could see in his eyes that he didn't want violence. His daughter was throwing a fit in his arms that she wanted him to be hers, she just went on and on about it as he carried her away.
I undid the boys chains and caught him as he started to teeter over.
"Thank you," the boy said.
I glanced down the street to see them coming out in droves," Dont thank me yet."
I carried him to the nearest care that was unlocked and hurried inside.
"Im 10k," the boy said,"whats your name?"
"I dont really have one, I just let people call me whatever is easiest."
"I think ill call you Ada then."
"Why Ada?"
"Im not sure, you just seem like an Ada."
And with that 10k passed out and the zombies were outside the car.
