Clunk. The post slid through the letter box and landed with a soft thud on the floor. "I'll get it!" I sprang up and ran for the door, my hair billowing behind me like a cape. 2 bills, a letter and a postcard. Nothing special. As I checked the mail my eyes were drawn to sloping green handwriting on a yellowing envelope.

I froze. I grasped the letter and stood, staring at it for a while.
"Hermione?" Dad called. "Are you okay love?"
Sprinting into the lounge, I slid to a halt on the carpet, showing my dad the letter.
"Look! Look! This came for me in the post Daddy!" I said positively bursting with excitement and anticipation.
"Open it then darling!" Mum said. Turning it over carefully, I caught sight of a bright red wax seal and a black and white school crest stamped neatly on the back of the envelope. Peeling back the wax cautiously, I took a peek inside. Two pieces of paper and a train ticket. Gently, I unfolded the first sheet.

I stared at the letter bewildered, in somewhat of a trance. "Hermione dear? Something wrong?" My mother's soft voice snapped me back to reality. I continued to stare.
"I-I've been accepted into a school. We-we haven't applied for any have we? I think I would know if we had applied to a school of Witchcraft and Wizardry." I stuttered.
"A school of what?" Dad asked, startled, whipping the letter out of my hands. His eyes raced over the page as he raked the content for errors. A look of utter confusion crept slowly across his pale face. "This can't be right. We haven't enrolled you in any schools, I mean how did they find you? We don't own an owl! What do they want with-" The words were almost tumbling out of his mouth as his breathing quickened, redness slowly seeping across his face, the doorbell made a harsh interruption. Ding dong. My mum's head snapped towards the door as she rose carefully, slowly up out of her chair and crept towards the door. My eyes followed her across the room as I tiptoed behind her, into the hall, towards the front door. Cautiously she stretched her arm out, edging towards the handle. Her hand made contact with the shiny metal, whitening as she pushed down and turned the handle.
