Sunday, October 25th 1998. It was raining, more like pouring. Everyone was at home, too scared to go outside. Except one couple, one family, who was in the hospital. Not because they got in an accident, not because they were injured, not because they were sick. They were there because they were expecting a new family member. Everyone in the waiting room (which consisted of family and close friends) was exited yet very nervous since the baby was two months early. The hospital room was filled with the cries and screams of a beautiful young woman probably in her 20's, going on for almost 30 minutes. Five minutes later, as the screams of the woman died down, new cries filled the room: the newborns cries, loud and clear. The doctors and nurses wrapped the baby in a towel and rushed out of the room. Everyone knew not to panic because they were just going to run some test to make sure that everything was normal for a two months early baby.
It has been 15 minutes and no one has heard a thing neither from the doctors nor from the nurses. By this time, everyone in the waiting room went in the room to see the newly parents and after a lot of insisting from them, they left since it was 2:45 in the morning. Suddenly, there was a knock and the door opened revealing a young nurse, probably in her 30's, holding the little buddle of joy in a blue blanket in her arms. She approached the father and said, smiling:
"-Congratulations. It's a baby girl."
"-Is-is she okay?" he asked. His voice giving away how worried he was, but also shocked from knowing that they were having a girl since they were told that they would be having a boy.
"-She is fine, she is perfectly healthy now. She is a little small for her size which affects her weight a little bit, but nothing major. The doctors would like to keep her in observation until tomorrow due to the fact that we lost her once."
"-You lost her!?" he replied in a panicked tone.
"-Yes, but she is fine now. We got her back. It is kind of normal for her considering that she is two months early, almost 3. But all that matters is that she is here and she is fit and fine. You got yourself a fighter sir." She smiled slightly at him. The man, now a father, mirrored it. Suddenly, the baby started crying and wiggling in the nurse's arms. The father looked down at her said:
"-Can I hold her?"
"-Oh, sure."
She carefully placed the baby in his arms. The baby girl instantly stopped crying and wiggling, and calmed down as if she knew it was her father. She slowly fell back asleep. He looks back up to see that the nurse left the room giving them some father-daughter time. The newly father sat down on the chair near the bed where the mother was sleeping. He stared down at his baby girl again and smiled big. She had brown hair, not too dark, not too light. We couldn't see her eyes due to the fact that she had her eyes closed since she was sleeping. She had her father's ear, cheeks, lips and same figure shape. The only difference from her father was her nose, she had her mother's cute little nose. In other words, she looked just like her father, which made him smile even bigger, if it was possible. At that moment, he knew he would do anything and everything to keep her safe and happy. The man looked up to see his wife now awake and smiling at them, he smiled back at her and asked:
"-How are you feeling, love?"
"-I'm good now that I rested."
"-That's good. I'm sure you're hungry, I know I am, so I'll go get us something to eat. Want to hold her?
The woman's smile dropped but quickly replaced it with a fake one before her husband realised it. Before she could protest or say anything, he gently placed the newborn in the mother's arms and left the room smiling. For a few minutes, the woman's eyes wandered everywhere but on the little girl lying down in her arms, asleep. All of a sudden, she felt the little one move in her arms. She looked down at her for the first time with a hint of disgust that she gave birth to a girl instead of a boy. The baby yawned cutely and slowly opened her eyes and looked at her mother. Shock ran through the woman's body followed by fear. She was afraid of her own baby. Of her own girl. She started to scream so loud that the father rushed in the room followed by two nurses. He instantly took the crying baby girl from the mother and cuddled her. The girl immediately calmed down, recognizing her father's embrace and scent, and looked up at him with a small smile on her lips. Now he saw why his wife was screaming.
His baby girl had purple eyes.
