Draco and Danielle were in the Library working on their project hopefully for the last time together before the Holidays. It was due the next day and both were working hectically on trying to accomplish the task given. They didn’t talk much and they didn’t bicker together they just worked in peace.

“Malfoy are you almost done?” Danielle asked him as she put her stuff back in her bag.

“Almost.” He muttered not taking his eyes off of the page he was reading.

“Do you need any help?” Danielle asked him. Malfoy looked up from his book giving a smirk to Danielle.

“Yes.” He answered. Danielle rolled her eyes and gestured for him to pass her another piece of Parchment. Draco slid the book over to her and then leaned back in his chair observing Danielle’s every move.

“Are you just gonna sit there and let me to the work again?” She asked him annoyed.

“Yup.” Draco said. He would rather be watching Danielle then having to work. Danielle continued to work until she felt a tap on her shoulder. Turing around she saw Harry.

“Potter. What do you want?” Draco spat.

“Nothing from you obviously Malfoy.” Harry said to him. Harry’s eyes left Draco and then landed upon Danielle’s. “So. Danielle. I was wondering if I could talk to you in private?” Harry asked her.

“Sure.” She obliged. Draco however didn’t want her to leave with Harry.

“No Potter can’t you see we’re busy?” Malfoy asked him. Harry rolled his eyes.

“I can see that Danielle was busy. You were watching her work.” Harry said. He dragged Danielle out to another spot in the Library as far away from Malfoy as possible.

“So Danielle. I still haven’t found someone to take to Slughorns party. I was wondering if you’d like to go together as friends?” Harry asked her.

“Uh… Yeah! That’d be great!” Danielle said. At least I’ll have an excuse not to work with Malfoy if we don’t get the job done tonight. She thought.

“Great. Meet me at the entrance hall at around 8 o’clock than?” Harry asked.

“Sure. Hermione’s still going right?” Danielle asked. Harry nodded.

“Yeah. Though she won’t tell me whom she’s taking. See you later.” Danielle watched as Harry left the Library looking as if he just accomplished something miraculous. Danielle knew that Harry was shy when it came to asking girls out. She remembered the time when he and Ron had a hard time finding dates to the Yule ball.

Danielle walked back to her table taking the quill in her hand once again and scribbling a few things down. Malfoy was full of anger.

“What did Potter want?” Draco asked her.

“Nothing, just asking me if I wanted to go Slughorns Party with him.” Danielle replied.

“What did you say?”

“I said I’d go. Which means if we don’t get this done today I can’t help you work on it tomorrow.” Danielle added. Draco rolled his eyes and then grabbed the book out of Danielle’s hands. “What the hell Malfoy! I’m helping you!” She argued.

“Well I can finish this myself!” Malfoy snapped as he gathered his things and then left the Library.

What’s his problem? Danielle thought. She sighed and then grabbed her things stuffing them into her bag. She left the Library and walked up to the Gryffindor Common Room.

Draco felt a pang of jealousy wash over his insides. Really? I am I really competing with Potter? I am better than that! He deserves someone with low quality standards!

Draco felt manipulated in a terribly odd way. Danielle was going to Slughorns party with Harry. Over the years Malfoy and Harry were often in competition with each other. Whether it was with Quidditch, friends, quality, girls, Grades. Malfoy felt that no matter what he was always second best to him. Of course he never let anyone else think that, but deep down he knew that was true.

Draco walked into the Slytherin Common Room and was greeted by Pansy Parkinson whom had managed to fling her arms around his neck. Malfoy (who was in no mood to “fool around”) pushed her off of him.He stormed off to his dorm slamming the door behind.

Draco lay down upon his bed letting his anger take the best of him by giving him a migraine. Blaise kept checking up on him making sure that he was okay. Minutes later Draco heard a few knocks on the door. He knew who that was instantly.

“Parkinson go away!” He shouted throwing a pillow at the door. Draco knew that he was acting like a child, but that’s what he truly felt as of this moment.

Merlin what has gotten into me? He thought.
