When this summer time ends we will not part as friends. Things were promised in blood, We have sinned.

He's not sure how to process it she's been distant for a long time now, not like she wasn't there she was always there, but her mind was always somewhere else, time was he'd of done anything  to find out where that place was, but now, now he wished he'd never asked.

He lifts his head so he's no longer looking at the ground but can't quite manage to look at her the tears in his eyes leaving a sensation he's never felt before they were stinging, but felt more like burning. The weight of what he's just been told makes him feel so heavy, like he can't stand so he slides down the kitchen side so he's on the floor.

"W- what?"  The floor was cold. But calming as he rests his hand flat on the tiles.

She doesn't say anything partly because her mouth was so dry she felt like she couldn't make the words come out even if she wanted to, and she doesn't. She never wants to say those words again.

"Nick" she almost whispers, but he doesn't look at her, there was nothing. So she she reaches out slowly to wipe his tears away. He doesn't push off as he slowly lifts his head his eyes meeting her's, not like they used to look at each other there was emotion but it wasn't love, he was hurt. She'd hurt him, she'd done the one thing she never wanted to happen.

"I love you, and I thought you loved me. I told you I could get you through anything, or at least try to"  he whispers

She crouches down so she's level with him both of them resting their head against the cupboard as she takes a breath "I do love you Nick, you have to believe me" she practically begs him. Her breath ragged from crying.

"Love?" He's not sure he knows what that is anymore "Carla, you got drunk, gambled your money, I could of helped you through that like last time, I could of handled that" he stands up to get a drink of water, but needed something stronger, something to take the pain away. He sounds so much like Carla, his Carla. Well that's what he thought she was.

"What I can't handle is that you slept with Robert. My chef of all people, but what hurts is that you never told me you just lied" he wants to cry but he can't, he has no tears left.

"I told you I was no good Nicky, I told you" she can't bare to look at him as the tears stream down her cheeks. "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, and i, well I just keep on messing it up"

He doesn't say anything just walks towards the door slowly "Nick? Please don't leave me" her darting from her fiancé then back to the door "please" she whispers but he says nothing just opens the door and walks out.

She can't hold it together any more as she slides her back down the door her hand clutched to her chest as if it hurt her to breath and in that moment it did.
She'd lost the one person that meant everything, he was everything. She wipes her tears away as her engagement ring catches her eye, she takes it off and holds it tight in her hand

"Goodbye, Nicky" she whispers.

All that I know about us is that beautiful things never last, that's why fireflies flash.
