"Amazing. Just great. It's the last day of school- thank goodness- but I get a stinking 98%!" I banged my head against my locker, pushing my long, straight, coal-black hair out of my boring brown eyes. Whatever, I have next year. My last year.
I hear footsteps, so I look up wearily. Great- it's Jacob Adams. I'm so excited. Sure, he's attractive with his beautiful sea green eyes and tousled sandy blond hair- but no boys. Nuh uh. Not what happened at my old school, Jane Ryder High School. I don't want to have another Nate Riel problem. "Hey, princess," Jacob snickers. A group of girls sigh- yes, he's the cliche hot guy, captain of the football team. He's your average quarterback that's got girls falling over their feet just to capture one second of his attention. Whatever, I don't care.
"Hi, idiot," I respond to him. I didn't mention before- he's my neighbor. My stinking next-door neighbor. *sigh* I could really do without him, for once. Don't get me wrong- his mom's the closest thing to a mother that I could have, what with my parents always traveling and all, but he himself? Sorry, I don't.
"Wanna come to my house?" Jacob retorts. I roll my eyes. Since when did he pay so much attention to me?
"Uh, no. Who wants to go to an idiot's house?" I counter. A bunch of girls huff and touch his arms. He smiles at them.
"You'll change your mind when you realize that I'm having the biggest party. I'm so glad today's the last day of school. Now, come on, babes." He then walked away with the girls hanging all over him. Whatever, I haven't been to his party before, since I just moved here this year, but from the last party I attended? No thanks, it's a bunch of no good. My parents don't even care- they're never home- but thankfully, I won't have to. I'd much rather finish my robotics application.
"Earth to Kyra?"
Oh, Janet. Thank goodness for her- she was the first person to be my friend besides my basketball, volleyball, soccer, and softball team. She does gymnastics, so I haven't been meeting up with her much.
"Hey, Jan," I respond to her fluttery blonde bob of hair. She blinks her sky blue eyes and smiles at me.
"Are you going to Jacob Adams' party? I heard it's gonna be wicked!" Janet quips.
"I know, but no thanks. The last party I went to..." I trail off, thinking of how my ex had broke up with me there.
"Okay, but you're gonna miss a lot of fun!" Janet replies and heads off to class.

The bell rings and us juniors race wildly out of school, screaming and shouting. I see a couple making out so I avert my eyes and walk home slowly. If I hurry, I can avoid having a confrontation with Biana Tacker.
Throwing my keys onto the couch, I walk upstairs in my house. My parents are out again, probably doing business on the other side of the world. *sigh* My life is just great.
A woman who looks like Jacob knocks on my door. Ah, Mrs. Adams. She is really nice, unlike her heck of a son. I answer the door politely and say 'hello'.
"Would you like to attend our party, dearie? Jacob says- wait, how do you kids talk- the party of a lifetime, yes, that's it. Well, would you? I know you just moved here, so I wanted you to get a glimpse of our life, yes?" Mrs. Adams says, cradling my head and pinching my cheeks.
"I might, Mrs. Adams. I just might. I'll go get changed, then I'll head over. And I'll tell you what- I'll help you set up, Missus," I reply. I know just how to work her type. It really is a miracle- I'll help set up, but I'll leave when the party starts and Mrs. Adams won't know. It's genius, really.
"Why, thank you, Kyra! Take your time, take your time. The party doesn't start 'til- let's see...." Mrs. Adams mumbles, counting off her fingers.
"Well, you've got a couple of hours. Thanks again- and what do kids say these days? Hmm, that's right. Peace out!" With that, she left my doorstep.
Oh, Mrs. Adams. You gotta love her, trying to keep up with us teenagers. Even I don't understand some of those words- like "on fleek".
I raced upstairs and crashed on my bed, looking at both of my windows- one on my right, one on my left- and sighed.
Apparently a new family of two was moving in. The boy was hot with his cinnamon brown hair and toasty grey eyes. His mom was the same image. I stopped by their house to visit and give cookies quickly, finding out that their names were Ryan and Jane Black. Jane was petite and polite, while her son was really hotheaded and annoying. So I left quickly and helped set up at Mrs. Adam's house, excusing myself to go change into a suitable outfit. She's really gullible, but at least it helps with my situation.
