Meetings
Chapter 1
He sat at the same bench he always did. Exactly three seats away from the library, just in case he finished his book. His exact same coffee, Mocha Mint Chocolate with a caffeine shot, just to make sure he stays awake; "Through The Looking Glass." He had read it already three times, but it was his favorite. He took a sip of the hot coffee exhaling through his nose as the warmth filled his chest. Readjusting his glasses and continued reading.
He wasn't even ten pages in before he got an ominous feeling; a feeling of dread and annoyance. "Ableeeeee!" A higher voice shrieked at him. Cain..... Now don't get him wrong he loved his best friend. The 17 year old had bright strawberry blonde hair and a radiant smile, and was as fruity as a christmas cake. He was much shorter than himself. Around 5"5, big blue eyes and a signature pink hat he'd worn since second grade. Kids used to laugh and call him Timmy Turner.
The redhead took Able from behind in a bone crushing hug. His hands loosening, and watched in slow motion as his coffee hit the concrete floor. "Cain! C'mon are you serious?" He swiftly turned meeting him face to face. Standing up and towering over him.
"He he..whoops. Sorry dude." He gave a half meaningful smile.
"Oh I'm so sure." He gave an annoyed look. "Your buying me one at lunch..."
Cain smiled. "Sure sure."
"What are you doing here so early?" Able asked sitting back down on the bench.
"Oh well Zave was taking a test early today and he's my ride so I had to come early."
"Oh I see." Cain sat next to him and continued to chatter on and on about current things happening with stars and gossip in school. As usual Able cut him out and continued to read his book. He just started the part where Alice is first told about the Jabberwocky, when a pair of thin arms wrapped around his neck and hugged him tight. A light blush went across his cheeks. He looked up to see a pair of blue eyes staring into his soul. "Uh good morning Crystal. Could you let me go?" Crystal was a skinny girl with gold blonde hair and pretty blue eyes. He had known her since middle school and she was a very good friend. She was bit of a drama geek. The type to wear scarves and turtlenecks. You know the types, the ones who go to the poetry slams every friday? Ya that Crystal.
"Oh Heaven forbid anyone talk to the bear before he's had his coffee." She giggled and let him go.
"Well I did have a coffee, but Cain made me spill it..." He shot Cain a dirty look. The redhead didn't even see, he was too busy texting on his phone.
"At least smile a little you look so dark." A lower voice said. In front of him was another good friend. Ian Spiffony, but they call him Spiff. He personally thought nicknames are silly. He had only met In his freshman year of highschool. Cain had introduced Able to him. Ian was a tall muscular man with with a brown military cut and brown eyes. Ian was the popular one, in football, basketball, soccer you name it.
"I'm light enough Ian, thank you." Spiff came up and ruffled his black hair.
"Lighten up man. I'm just pullin your leg." He continued his conversation with Cain and Crystal. Able would add in a comment here and there but stayed quiet most of the time like he always did.
"Guys the bell is about to ring we should go.." Able piped up.
This year just isn't going by fast enough....
Morgan walked through the halls completely confused. 'Okay so you turn here...then the door should be..' "Here!....nope....another wall..." she gave a frustrated sigh and stomped away staring at her schedule. "Stupid school...stupid moving...stupid maze....stu-" And then it was like hitting a flimsy brick wall. Slam!
"Ouch!" she fell backwards right on her butt. A similar situation with the other person was heard. "Oh my god i'm so sorry!" she scrambled around to grab her papers. The other stood up and grabbed his bag. Morgan looked up to a hand in her face. Shyly she took it as he helped her up and she was met with the most stunning green eyes like emerald. His black hair was long on top, shaved on the sides and circular glasses took up most of his face. As he stood full height she only came up to a little under his shoulder. He was skinny and gangly but still handsome. He had a shy look on his face.
"No it was my fault. I shouldn't read and walk..."he stood awkwardly avoiding eye contact "..are you new?" She fixed her hair behind her ear and looked up. "Oh ya..I just moved here last week it's my first day. My names Morgan Whitfield..." He gave a sweet smile.
"Well, welcome Ms. Whitfield. My name is Abraham Curtis." She gave him a funny look.
"Abraham? That's such a grown up name." He gave a low chuckle that made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end.
"All my friends call me Able." he stuck his hand towards hers. "May I see your schedule?"
"Oh sure.." She looked through the paper in her hands then handed him the schedule.
"You have three classes and lunch with me. a coincidence." He gave another melting smile.
"Well I can't find my first hour class..." she took the schedule back.
"DeLong's math class is second floor room 281." He pointed towards the stairs and continued. "This school has 2 floors and a back building. First floor is history, language and art classes, with a few weird ones. Second is math and science. The back building has stuff like shop class, botany, medical careers. So on, so forth." he explained. She smiled.
"Thank you Abel." RIIIING. THe bell went off.
"I'll see you soon Morgan." He gave one last smile and left down the hall. She stood there a second and watched him leave. Her eyes trailed to a certain area and she smiled.
"Flat.." and giggled.
Morgan started her way up the winding stairs and came to the second floor. She had to go straight turn and then turn again up a lift to the classroom in the corner. She was in Algebra one. The girl walked into her room and took a seat near the middle. She felt a presence behind her. "Um excuse me you're in my seat.." A low voice said. She shot up,
"Oh i'm so sorry! Really I didn't know." He gave another chuckle.
"It's alright. Don't worry." Morgan looked at him. He was a black man that stood at around at least 6"2 short cropped curly hair and turquoise eyes. He was wearing a red turtleneck shirt and normal faded blue jeans. As handsome as he was, he had an odd aura of mystery around him that intrigued her. He pointed to the desk next to him.
"This desk is free, please feel free to sit." He smiled kindly. She blushed a little and sat next to him.
"I'm Morgan Whitman, and you?" She pulled out her notebook and pencil.
"I'm Xavier Olson. It's a pleasure. Have you been in Minot long?"
"Oh uh no I just moved here over the weekend. Saturday actually."
"Well I hope you enjoy your time here. Have you made any friends?" he looked at her. He didn't seem like he was trying to force small talk but like he actually cared. He was kind and handsome. Her heart raced a little when she looked into his turquoise eyes.
"No actually I-well..hehe there was this one boy. I can't remember his name. It started with an A..umm alex..no...able..ya!"
"Able? Tall, dorky glasses, piercings?"
"Ya! That's him" she remembered. How could she forget his name?
Xavier snickered.
"His name is Abraham Curtis, he's a good friend of mine."
"Oh? Well I have next hour with him...do you think you could show me around?" she scooted a little closer to him and batted her lashes. "Surely you'd know the way to the gym." She looked him in the eye and turned on the charm. His eyes opened a little and eyebrows shot up.
"Uh..Um..Class is beginning.." He nervously looked down at his notebook. She gave a pout. 'good job dumbass you botched that one up'
