I can't put my thoughts properly into words but damn I will try.
I don't understand why people cant see past 5 Seconds of Summer's undeniable growing popularity. Look past their magazine covers, look past their #1 Albums. Look past the dumb fangirls that pretend to like them, and look past the fact that they are attractive to some people. God Damn it why is that so hard?
Music, writing, playing, singing, is an escape to some people. It makes people happy. It is indescribable how making music can make you feel. writing music is a way to connect with people, to share what you can't say. Now, look at 5sos' lyrics. They have meaning, they're not this meaningless shit on the radio talking about how drunk you are, or telling you to whip and nae nae. These lyrics talk about the layers underneath that. Or at least most of their songs do.
You look at them and you see this colored hair dude, a hot singer, an asian guy and a ripped drummer.
Some people actually have the fucking brain to look past that, and see HOW they got to where they are now, and WHAT they do on a daily basis. They get four days at home with their family, and even within those, paparazzi harass them, and people stalk them. That fucking sucks.
Ashton said it himself, at "The New Broken Scene" In Atlanta, they want us to believe in them as much as they do. They want to mean something, and only now have they realized they have a voice. They have a voice to connect and understand people. It makes me so fucking mad that they are pinned as a boy band, just because they are young males in a music making group.
They got best new artists in 2014, Song Of Summer, Best Australian Live Performance, and so many others but all people care about is who Taylor Swift fucked last night. Open your eyes and see who is really helping the people you see everyday. The people who are helping your kids, if you're an adult, because you apparently aren't.
They had a dream in Sydney, and for some reason it happened, they made it big. Waves and waves of new fans join the fan base daily. THey aren't just our little secret anymore, the world knows about them, and we as a family need to accept that. The 5sos fam is more than a bunch of fans, says it in the name. We are a family. Fan accounts on instagram are literally SAVING people's lives. IEven I have helped talk people out of suicide. Where were their parents when that happened? Ask them. They were at work, they were downstairs, they were across the hall, unaware of their child's emotions, how they are feeling. These songs that 5sos make translate these feelings into songs and that is something more people need to realize.
These boys are talented little fuckers, flawless on the guitar, drums, bass, voice, lyrics. The amount of fans they connect with, the amount of fans they meet. They care, and they will tell us that until the day they stop making music. They understand us, something we probably haven't encountered in a shit long time. So, if you think they are just a boy band, kindly get your head out of your ass and look at the impact they have.
