As the smoke began to clear the sun came into view. Looking at my friends I smiled and began walking up the hill we were hidden behind. Karen, my best friend walked up behind me and looked into the sunrise. "It's not often I get to look at the sun. I kinda want it to blind me." I chuckled a bit and said then we'd have to leave you. She laughed along with me and walked back down the hill to wake the rest of my friends up. Lana, the badass of the group woke up with a angered expression on her face. "C'mon Karen, 5 more minutes gosh damnit!" She crawled into a ball and zipped up her sleeping bag. Karen pulled a pillow out from under Winters head and threw it at Lana. "Wake the hell up dumbass, we gotta go!" Winter simply got up, stuck up her middle finger and grabbed her pillow. "Bitches." She began packing up her stuff and sighed. Winter was the quiet, but confident one of the group. She could solve a argument while beating up a road raider. With all the commotion the rest of the group began to wake up. Lauren, with a confused look on her face, simply grunted and grabbed her stuff. "You guys are such idiots." When everyone was ready to go we began walking down the trail beside the hill we were camping in. Sammy, the honestly clueless one, asked, "Where the hell are we going anyway?" "A place far away from here. Somewhere where we can live for a while until we can move across the Atlantic." I said. "This is going to be impossible! According to my calculations we'll die off before we can ever live our dreams!" Screamed Rose. Rose was a funny person. She was the drama queen of the group. We all loved her but sometimes, she'd scare the hell out of me with her so called calculations. I looked at her and then simply said "breathe." I was tired and, hungry, but since i was technically the leader of the group i couldn't really do much about it. The sun continued beating down on us as we walked. We took breaks, but none of us were fully rested. After a couple of hours of walking, Tara, the weird one of the group stopped. "I can't walk anymore, i need rest." She stopped, sat down and looked at the sky. The rest of us sat down too. Tristen, the nice one, offered Tara a cracker. Tara took it and bit into it. "I miss our old lives." None of us ever liked talking about how happy we were a few years ago, when America was at peace. "I remember when i could go and get ice-cream, and sleep in a bed. I remember when i could look out onto a field and see flowers, and nature, and sun." She sniffed and then looked at us to see our reaction. " I remember when i could go to school, and come home to a nice snack that was self made, if i do say myself." We all chuckled and continued talking about life back when we were in 7th grade. Happy....free.
