The Light in my

father's eyes shined bright

when my mom unfolded

the ones from her coat.

The discreditable job

of my mom was the

last thing keeping us going.

Dad tried cutting back

but when he first gave it up

he knew it wouldn't last.

His sick fascination,

our world spinning out of control

and a desire for change wasn't enough.

I can see him leaning

farther away from us but

crawling his way closer to the bottle.

His eyes wouldn't sit still

they flashed (darted) around the room

His mind wandered onto

a destructive path.

As we wandered onto

the streets.
