Chapter 1

Katherine life was perfect well perfect as can be she had her dream job, she lived in New York City a place she loved, an awesome boyfriend until he got into a car accident that is. After that accident everything changed he's angry all the time at one point he blacked her eye and then tried to blame her, Katherine couldn't take it any more she broke up with him but he didn't take it too well he started stalking her, sending her death threats. She went to the police but they didn't do anything but escort her home so she moved out of New York and to the windy city Chicago.

She always wondered why people choose Chicago when they move, but getting off the plane and out of the airport now she understood. Chicago was a beautiful city! 10 min later and she finally hailed down a cab but instead got bumped and pushed out of the way by some jerk. She tripped over her suit case and landed on her ass not before twisting her ankle. "I guess Chicago is a lot like New York," she mumbled to herself. A good samaritan came to help her "you ok ma'am?" Katherine looked up into the most gorgeous eyes she's ever seen and that smile OMG "No I think I twisted my ankle when I fell." The guy went and looked at her ankle when he pulled up her jeans he moved her ankle and when she winced he put her foot down. "Well you're right you did twist your ankle but nothing seems to be broken." Katherine laughed "You a doctor?" The guy smiled and nodded his head "Dr. Connor Rhodes at your service." Katherine shook his hand and he helped her up after putting her in his car and putting her things in his trunk he drove her to the hospital where he put a sprain on her ankle and gave her some crutches. "First day in Chicago and I get a sprained ankle." Connor smiled "So you just moved here from where?" "Yea I moved down here from New York," Connor smiled "ahhh the big Apple huh? Why move to Chicago? It gets real real cold in the winter." Katherine laughed "So does NY especially since it's mostly near water." Connor laughed "True, well Ms?" "Miss. Manning." "Miss Manning? Do you have any relations to a Natalie Manning?" Katherine looked up "You know my cousin? I know she's a doctor but I don't know what hospital she works in." "I'll go get her," he smiled and walked off. As she waited for him to come back she checked her messages. 10 minutes later Natalie walks in and Connor behind her, "Kat omg you made it but what happened?" "I was about to get in a cab when some asshole basically pushed me out the way to get it and I tripped over my bag and sprained my ankle. Dr. Rhodes was there and helped me here and wrapped it." Natalie hugged me and smiled "I can't wait for you too meet Owen he is just the cutest." I smiled and hugged her "Let me head to the apartment the key still where you always leave it?" Natalie nodded her head.

She was really struggling when she heard a laugh behind her she looked back and saw Rhodes holding onto the bed, "What's so funny Doctor?" Rhodes got up and grabbed her waist "Its not that hard to walk on these I'll help you to the car." Katherine managed a growl before they was walking to his car. As he helped her into the car a car screeched to a stop and a man with sandy hair came out with another man shot, "Doctor help please he's been shot." There was a lot of panic and yelling as Rhodes closed me in and told me to wait. "I CANT GET OUT EVEN IF I COULD!" Katherine screamed and she heard him laugh. Almost an hour later Rhodes came out with a smile on his face. As he got in she asked "So I'm guessing you saved that guys life?" Rhodes smiled and replied "You guessed right and now taking you home you need to rest and stay off your feet," Katherine raised her eyebrow "So tell me doc how am I too eat, drink and use the bathroom? I don't have a maid or a personal assistant." Rhodes looked thoughtful "Well I guess I'll help as long as I'm not working," Katherine huffed and they drove off in peaceful silence. As they pulled up to Natalie's apartment Rhodes came around and helped her out the car "So where's the key?" "Lets get upstairs first Doc." As they got into the building they headed to the elevator and she pressed 5. When they got to the door she reached up to the top of the door and got the key and opened the door Rhodes opened it the rest of the way and held it open for her "Thanks Connor," As she hobbles in she stops and breaths just remembering the last time she was here, she shakes her head and just hobbles over to the couch and puts the crutches on the side. Rhodes just looks at her as he closes the door "So you thirsty?" Katherine looks up and laughs "This is my place and you asking if I'm thirsty?" "Technically its Natalie's place," "Which in turn I'm her cousin and I'm staying here till I get on my feet," "Touche Katherine, so what do you do you know job wise," Katherine smiles at that "I'm a teacher I teach 1st graders." Connor looked up at that "Really??" "What you mean really are you surprised that I'm a teacher?" "Actually I am I thought you might be a doctor or a cop." Katherine shook her head and smiled "No I'm a teacher I love working with kids and being a teacher is the best career for me." Connor smiled and was about to ask her if she wanted something to eat when his phone rang.
