A/N: Skylar is six in the picture above
Hi guys! This is my first fic, so sorry if it's bad. If anyone wants me to do more of these, then I can take requests. Idk how frequently I'll be updating because of school.
Disclaimer: I do not own Fall Out Boy or any other real people in this story. I do, however, own Skylar, Nalia, and their parents. Also, any events or people in the story that resemble anyone real/a real event/ another story are purely coincidential. This is an original fanfiction.
The sickeningly warm, midsummer sun beat down mercilessly on the Jefferson Elementary School playground. While everyone else sprinted around the equipment playing tag, screaming like hyenas, I wandered around the outskirts of the playground, where the field met the forest and the trees overhang the border. Honeysuckle bushes were located a couple steps into the forest, which was restricted to all students. I, however, couldn't care less.
I hopped over the short, chicken wire fence and trotted over to the honeysuckle bushes. Creamy, white, bell shaped flowers hung delicately before me. I plucked one off to eat.
As I gently pulled the back of the flower off, loud thuds headed my way. Two small hands collided with the fence, and a voice shrieked out "Stop!"
I whirled around, and saw a blonde girl panting, a worried look in her eyes. She looked about my age. "Why?" I asked her innocently.
"Because they're poison!" she yelled, as if it were obvious.
I laughed. "They're just honeysuckle," I explained to the girl. "You want one?" She stared at the flower in my hand, and gingerly held out hers. I slid the green back off of the flower and handed it to her. "You have to take it, and then pull the back off like this," I demonstrated. "Then, you get a drop of flower juice."
She plucked a honeysuckle off the bush and did as I had instructed. A fat drop of nectar rested on the tip of the string she pulled. "Thanks Skylar!" she exclaimed, smiling at the sweetness of the nectar she had consumed.
"How do you know my name?" I asked, unsettled.
"Um, you're in my class," the blonde reminded me, puzzled by the fact that I didn't recognize her.
"Sorry," I apologized. "I don't talk to people much."
"That's okay, friend!" she exclaimed.
"Friend?" This concept is completely foreign to me.
"Isn't that what we are? Friends help friends."
"Okay, friend." What a strange word. "What's your name?"
"Nalia," she replied. "Do you want to play with me tomorrow? I don't have many friends either."
"Okay Nalia," I promised happily. We climbed back over the chicken wire fence, and proceeded to play random, outlandish games together until the bell rang.

The bus pulled up to my house, and I sprinted home, unable to wait to tell my parents the great news. I have a friend I thought, feeling extremely accomplished. I ran inside and threw my backpack on the floor, not caring about having to drag it to my room later.
"Mommy!" I squealed happily. "Mommy, I have a best friend!" I only heard my voice echoing through the house rather than getting a response. "Mom?" I asked, slightly afraid at the thought of being alone in the house. No response.
I scrambled through every room looking for any signs of her. I walked back into the kitchen, looking for a note that might have been left behind. As I passed the backyard door, I heard a muffled cry. Carefully, I opened it, only to reveal my mother sitting on the patio steps with tears rolling down her face. I trotted over and snuggled next to her, hoping that it would give her the slightest bit of solace. She clutched a wide, red plastic cup filled halfway with a deep red liquid.
"Why are you crying?" I asked innocently. "Did Daddy not come back yet?"
She let out a sigh and smiled at me. "Daddy's in Las Vegas," she reminded me.
He's always there I thought to myself, and clearly Mom thought so too.
"He will come back," I reassured.
"Sweetheart, he left us." Mom choked out those last words and got back to her cup. Her breath smelled rancid, almost like puke mixed with the distinct aroma of the red liquid.
It's just the two of us now.
