I always remember being here. I have never left the country, I have never seen anywhere outside the large metal gates that confine the orphanage. London is supposedly the most beautiful place in the world, I couldn't tell you that because I have only seen the city through the bars of the gates. I don't know why my parents would leave me here to rot away in the outdated and dirty house with 10 other girls. We don't play much, we don't have dolls, and most of our dresses are torn and stained. I don't remember my life before, but I'm sure it was better than living in poverty. Every day I do chores, I do laundry, I wash dishes, I do plenty of work because I am the second oldest. 13 years of being confined here to rot like a spoiled tomato. The headmistress doesn't care much for us, she treats us like slaves rather than daughters, and she spends most of her time drunk. She has a stock of 50 wine bottles in her room and she watches movies on her silver flickering television screen. My life was okay before the bombing, but wow was I in for some adventure.
