matt

"Maaat!" came an all-too familiar call. I sighed, rubbing my eyes and yawning.
"I don't wannaaaaaaa..." I whined back in response, my gaze never leaving my DS.
"Mattiiiieeeeee...." came the call again. Huffing, I put the DS back into the pocket of my jacket.
"Brilliant. I'm coming," I mumbled, rubbing my eyes and reluctantly standing. I moved out into the hallway, looking annoyed as I rounded the corner to see Mello sprawled out on the couch, facedown and mumbling to himself. Leaning against the wall, I eyed him and sighed, crossing my arms.
"What the hell do you want?" I asked.
"Chocolate..." Mello grumbled.
"Do it yourself. I'm not going to be your maid," I huffed. Mello looked up, frowning a bit.
"But I'm busy writing..." he mumbled. I sighed. "Pleeeeeease..." Mello whined.
"Hmmm... only of you dress up as Princess Peach and let me be your Mario for Halloween..." I asked, smirking.
"Screw it, I'll starve," Mello muttered. I frowned. Halloween was just a few days away.
"Come on. I already have your costume..." I huffed. "Please?"
"No! You got me that for my birthday and I'd really rather not!" Mello sighed.
"Come on."
There was a giant pause and then a sigh. "Fine. Get me a lot of chocolate, though," he sighed. I smirked, walking over and planting a brief kiss on his cheek before I went to go get the chocolate.
"Oh. Wow. Okay..." Satisfied with the confusion in Mello's tone, I smirked and grabbed several bars of chocolate for Mello. He had shifted, now showing several pages of writing he had clearly been doing.
"Oi, don't get too caught up in your work," I said warningly and put the chocolate bars on the floor beside him. I sat down beside him, rifling through the papers as Mello started working on the papers again, and now with chocolate.
"There is happiness in each and every one of those lights. I won't allow anyone to shatter them."
"L really said this?" I asked softly and sighed, looking down for a moment.
"Yeah... I really miss him," Mello murmured.
"We all do, Mels," I sighed and rubbed the back of my head. "I wish he hadn't died..."
"We all do," Mello said softly, letting his hand still from writing and shutting his eyes, planting his face onto the floor. I could see his shoulders shaking a bit. Sighing, I patted his back gently. I knew Mello had been very close with L before he had died. I felt bad for him. I had never been as close, as I had never really cared about being L's successor when I was younger. And now.
Mello pulled himself up and hugged me around my waist. Sighing, I ran my hand through his hair to calm hin. "Shhh... I'm sorry, Mels."
"I don't... I didn't want..." Mello's voice was muffled by his crying.
"I know, Mels. I know."
