how can you long for the arms
that have never held you close?
dreaming about scenarios that
only played out in your mind?

counting missing sheep in the dark
missing someone who never existed

a person you can never describe
so fleeting so empty so gone
a feeling of longing for the unknown
wondering if you will ever be loved

praying that it will be just like the books
missing someone who never existed

a creative imagination's creation
a being made only for your love
yet you lie alone on your empty bed
with just your hands to hold your heart

stopped short by your own eye's sight
missing someone who never existed

memories not written down in pen
but a series of what ifs seared into memory
the tick tock of the black room
counting down until you let yourself sink

holding on to what will never be yours
missing someone who never existed

a mirage of perfection in an opposite world
a hope for a future you cannot foresee
a longing for something subconscious says you can not have
an empty space that is filled with escaping dreams

grasping the threads of what is not tangible

missing someone who never existed
