"And now for the ranked battle stages!"

"Splatastic!"

The Inkling watching the broadcast muted the TV and stared off into space. He was only level 9, so he couldn't compete in ranked battles. The only reason he kept the TV on is so he could ogle at his (and probably half of inkopolis') crush, Marie. He turned the sound back on the TV as the ranked stages disappeared off screen.

"Staaaay fresh!"

The Inkling turned off the TV. He went over to his closet, and changed into the clothes he was going to wear for today's turf battle. He usually wore some sort of cap and junky shoes, but today he decided to put on the boots he had bought last week. He thought they looked good on him. He took his orange tentacles out of the topknot he slept in and let them hang loose. He didn't like how popular the topknot was so he wore his hair down, but some Inklings confused him for a girl. His style was not the only thing weird about him. Even though he had orange tentacles, his parents were stubborn and didn't want a son with orange tentacles.

Blue.

His name was Blue.

Blue looked in his closet and grabbed his beat-up Tentatek Splattershot off the floor. He grabbed some cheap goggles he had found on the street and slipped them over his green eyes as he walked down the stairs. He poured a bowl of Squiddy-Os and scarfed them down as fast as he could, then chugged a glass of water. Blue checked his watch. He was supposed to meet his friends near Inkopolis Tower at ten, but he still had about fifteen minutes. He decided to walk to the tower today, because he had the time.

Blue walked up to the green tower with the Great Zapfish around it with two minutes to spare. The fish had gone missing for a few days, but it was back now so he didn't really think about it. He decided to go get a drink from the vending machines by the shady back alley, and by the time he got back his friend Cyan was leaning on her Splat Charger by the door of the tower. They talked about the various things that had happened to them until Neon and Grass walked up, with a Krak-On Splat Roller and a Tri-slosher respectively. They were both above level ten but stayed back from ranked to play turf war with Cyan and Blue. "Where should we play this time, MahiMahi Resort or Kelp Dome?" Grass said to her friends. She had light green tentacles and was wearing a white headband to support the turf war newbies. "How about Kelp Dome?" said Blue. "Are you sure?" said Neon. "Do you really want to play in the Kelp Dome?" "Yeah, why not?" Blue replied. "Well, if you really want to.." Neon said. So the friends headed into the tower and walked into the dome.

"Booyah!" Blue yelled as he splatted a pink Inkling with a Hydra Splatling. He was very proud of himself for defeating the higher leveled Inkling. Suddenly he heard something behind him. He spun around to see Neon bearing down on him with his roller. Blue pulled out his now yellow Splattershot and started to fire. "Nice try!" Neon yelled, and rolled him over. Blue rose out of the ink at his spawn. He jumped to his teammate, a yellow Inkling with a Bamboozler. He was spraying over some ink on the ground that looked more purple than pink. "That ink looks a little off to me..." he said to the other Inkling. "Huh? oh yeah, you're right..." the other Inkling stopped spraying and poked the strange ink with his gun. The Bamboozler started to sizzle. The higher leveled Inkling yelped and pulled his gun out. "Everyone, get over here!" the Inkling yelled. Cyan and another inkling super jumped to their location. "What is this stuff? It's not Pink Team's ink..." Suddenly, two more inklings ran up behind them. Pink Team, seeing all of Yellow in one spot, had come to splat them. but when they saw the ink, they dropped their weapons. One pink Inkling dropped his Splat Charger into the ink, and it promptly sunk. The inkling freaked out and ran into the purple ink to try to receive his gun. The inkling sunk into the ink, and didn't come back out. Blue backed away from the ink.

Suddenly, the inkling with the Bamboozler yelled out, and then his Bamboozler hit the ground. Blue spun around to see that the Inkling had been splatted, and the ground around was covered with the strange purple ink. Blue started to run, and then he saw a purple tentacle pop out of the ground where the inkling had been splatted. It grabbed another inkling, and dragged her screaming and kicking into the ink. Something then popped out of the ink where the pink girl had disappeared.

It was a girl. It looked like an Inkling, but it definitely wasn't. She was wearing a metal breastplate and boots, and had goggles over her eyes. The weird thing about her was her hair. It was not like any inkling hair he had seen before. The strange girl suddenly pulled out something that looked like a modified Splattershot.  A male yellow inkling was caught off guard and was splatted. Everyone else around the area began to run like the wind as three more creatures like the girl emerged. The other pink inkling was splatted as well, and it was only Blue and Cyan running. Cyan threw her Charger at the creatures. It hit one in the head, and the girl dissolved into the purple ink she had come out of. The two turned into squids and swam towards the Pink Team spawn, hoping to find Grass and Neon there.

They met up with their friends and told them what had happened. "I told you we shouldn't have come here!" Neon said. "How did you know?" asked Blue. "The Squid Sisters warned about it during the ranked battle broadcast!" the purple boy replied.

Oops, Blue thought. Just then, Cyan let out a yell and exploded into the purple ink. An octopus jumped out, which turned into the girl Blue had seen before. "Octarians!" Grass yelled as they ran away. "THE Octarians? The ones we beat in the Great Turf War?" Blue yelled back. "But I thought they disappeared years ago!" "That's what I thought, too!" Grass yelled back. Suddenly, Neon stopped. The other two Octarians were in front of them. Neon ran at them with his roller, but the three modified Splattershots overpowered him and his clothes and weapon fell to the ground. The weapons were then turned on Blue and Grass, and the two shot their hands into the air. One of the Octarians turned to another with seaweed on her head, who nodded. The Octarians hit the two over the head.

Blue blacked out.
