The bell for the end of the day echoed through the halls of Roseday High School. The screaming of exited teens could be heard from a mile away. Why this much noise? Because not only was this the end of the school day, it was also the end of the school year. "Now class don't forget to read To Kill a Mockingbird over the summer holidays!" Mrs. Gilwell yelled over the chaotic blare of her pupils. Of course no one heard her but me. Not that it meant I would read the book. I just was shoving all my things into my schoolbag as my friend Corey strolled over.
"Andy, mate. You coming to the party this Saturday?" I shook my head grinning. "What's the catch this time?" He gave me a malicious smirk. "You have to bring a date." He said, still grinning. "Is that right?" I replied. "Mhmm" he nodded, "See you there loser". And with that he sauntered off, and started talking to a group of girls. Typical.
I threw my bag over my shoulder and wandered out of the school gates. I began walking down the hill, occasionally being asked if I was going to the party by fellow school mates. Corey's parties were always the best, so it was kind of a big deal to go to one. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and began scrolling through my contacts, in an attempt to find a potential date. I sighed, knowing that no one would be. I tapped Corey's number and held the phone up to my ear. After a few rings he picked up.
"Yeah man? What's up?" He answered. "Do a bro a favour? Can I come without a date?" there was a long silence and I bit my lip anxiously. "On one condition" he said wickedly, "One of my cousins are coming to the party" I nodded, wondering where this could be going. "and they are currently single. So, I want you to ask out my cousin". That didn't sound too bad, compared to some of the things Corey has made me do before. "You'll introduced me to her right?" I heard a snicker on the other end of the line. "What are you laughing about?" I questioned in annoyance. "Oh nothing man. Yeah sure I'll introduce you to them" he replied, still laughing to himself. "Thanks Corey" "Anytime" and the call ended.
I slipped my phone back into my pocket, and continued making my way to my house on Dandy Lane.
I wonder what she's like I thought, looking up into the sky. There weren't many clouds up there today, it was just blue. I was suddenly snapped back into reality when I bumped into something, getting myself landed on the ground. I look up to see that that something was actually a someone.
"I'm so sorry" we said in unison. "No it was my fault man, I wasn't concentrating on where I was going" I said as I stood up. I was met with two blue eyes looking directly into mine. "It's okay, I was a bit distracted too" he replied, his eyes raking my body. "Okay... well see you around I guess" I said and immediately took off. After a few minutes if non-stop speed walking I finally reached my front gate. I let out a sigh. Why do I have to be so awkward? I wondered, mentally slapping myself. I made my way to my front door, and pulled a key from my pocket. I unlocked the door and stepped inside.
Less than a second later, an over excited husky pup came from around the corner and bolted towards me. I dropped my bag on the ground and plastered a wide grin on my face. "Hey buddy" I beamed, taking the dog into my arms. He needed a name, but I still hadn't come up with the perfect one.
I hiked up the stairs and turned left into my room. The walls were painted a dull grey, not that you could tell because of the posters that covered every inch of the room. On one side of the room there was a desk with my laptop and notebooks, and on the other side was my bed. I grabbed my laptop and plonked down onto my bed. I fired up my laptop and opened up Facebook, scrolling through to see what other people were doing now that school had ended. I came across pictures of people partying. Already? I said to myself, surprised that people had started their celebrations so early in the day. I then launched iTunes and played my favourite Fall Out Boy album, Infinity on High. After a while of tapping my fingers along to the songs, my eyes grew heavy and I drifted off into a deep sleep.
