According to the book Social Dimension of Education by: Violeta A. Vega Et.Al Human is called as Lowest Animal it's because like the animal we feel Happiness, sadness, Fear but the difference between the animal and human is the ability to Decide or to choose what we want to do, or we have our decision making. Culture is what distinguishes human being from lower animal. Now let us talks about the importance and Functions of culture. The first one is.
1. Culture helps the individual fulfill his potential as a human being – Meaning it is important because it helps us to involve ourselves in all aspects of man. So what are the Aspects of man? Example: Moral Aspects, Spiritual Aspect. Physical Aspects by means of culture we can easily fulfill the needs of our soul.
Ex. You want to go in the church. If you are a Muslim there's a Muslim church, if you are a catholic there's also a church for that. On the other hand culture helps us to place yourself to involve ourselves to participate to fulfill our needs or wants as a human being.
2. Through the development of culture, man can overcome his physical disadvantages and allows him to provide himself with fire, clothing, food and shelter. – So according to this statement we have our disadvantages or what we called LIMITATION right? And one of the Characteristic of the culture is DYNAMIC or it is constantly changing. We have our limitation so we can create our own. We build a new things enable for us to be more comfortable. We invent new things to satisfy us.
Example: We can't fly that's the reason why we create AIRPLANE. It's difficult to communicate in the other country, that's why we create cell phones, Androids. Because of our limitation its is the reason wh we CREATE, INNOVATE New things to SATISFY OUR SOUL.
(Dahil marami tayong hindi kayang gawin kaya bumubuo tayo ng bagong bagay o kultura para matugunan yung pangangailangan natin.
3. Culture provides rules of proper conduct. – because we have our different attitude and sometimes it can occur many conflicts of misunderstanding that's why PEOPLE SET THEIR OWN NORMS. And as we remember one of the characteristics of the society is having a NORMS or set of rules enable for the society live peacefully. (Gumagawa tayo ng rules para maging maayos ang society naten.
4. Culture also provides the individual his concept of family, nation and class. – We can encounter different culture in different country. Or what we called cultural Variability. Meaning we have to provide our set of discipline that will fit to the culture. (hindi mo kasi pwede ipilit yung kultura mo sa kultura ng ibang bansa or kultura sa ibang lugar. Magiging parang ewan ka nun. Exampple na lang sa church. You attend the "Church ceremony of "Iglesia ni Cristo" and their culture is to wear a decent clothing. Tapos nagsuot ka ng Maong and Sando or spaghetti strap. So basically you are not allowed to enter the church dahil Bawal kasi dun maiiksi so basically makikisama ka kasi magmumuka kang deviant nun.
