It's hard to forget. It's even harder to forget something that has been a part of your life for what seems like forever. As Lana walked away from the court house that day she knew that her life would never be the same.

For three years she had been with that prick, the one who made her fall in love and then used it against her. She was too nice to stop it and to stand up to herself but she finally did, or well her uncle did.

The heavy weight had lifted from her shoulders with each step she took. She donned her sun glasses and stepped into her car. This was the best graduation present anyone could have gotten for her. It was safe to say that Lana had witnessed a lot more bad than anyone her age should've had to. She was ready to start her new life, in a new place, doing something she loved. It was hard for her to picture what her new life would be like without him in it, but she was so willing to try.

When she got back her parents place, Lana was pleased to see that the big ugly "Congrats Grad" banner was removed from her house and it was now clear of any indication that she was leaving. When she walked in, she noticed that her stuff was positioned next to the front door just like she had left it. Her mother was sitting in the living room just staring into space, unblinking and unresponsive.

"Mom. Mom! Come on I have to go. The least you could do is give your daughter a proper send off."

Lana shook her mother's shoulders, trying to get some sort of response from her. It had been a year since Mary's husband had died and ever since then, all Mary had really done was shut down. Lana's uncles Dawson and Cray, a married couple, had been a really big help since then. They had moved in with Lana and her mother, helping with the mortgage and all the other bills. Lana had done her part too and taken up a job to help pay for things around the house such as food and whatnot.

"Lana. Lana, my beautiful girl. You aren't going anywhere, are you?" Mary asked, turning towards her daughter with a mist over her eyes.

"What will I do without you? First your father, now I'm losing you too."

"No, Mom. You aren't losing me. I'm just going to an actual college instead of the community college I've been attending for the past two years, remember?" Lana said, gently reminding her mother.

"Oh yes. I remember. You want to be a musical magician."

"No Mom. Therapist. I want to be a musical therapist."

"Therapist, right."

"I'm leaving now, Mom." Lana said, standing.

"What? Oh, yes. You can go to Lauren's. Just be back when you are done baking cookies." Mary said, that glazed look still in her eyes.

"Dawson and Cray are here. You'll be fine. I'll call when I can." Lana said heading towards the door, seeing that her belongings had been taken to the car by her uncles already.

"Bye, Mom." Lana said turning back for one more glance at the woman in the chair.

With a sigh and a prayer of hope for her mother, Lana left her childhood home with nothing but a car full of essentials and a heart full of hope and set out to start her new life.
