I walked into school with a white knit cap.

"Hat!" My first period teacher yelled at me. I pulled the cap off to reveal my shaven head.

"Jacqueline, what happened to your head?" My teacher asked me.

"I donated it." I said.

"That's amazing! But it's winter time." She said.

"Cancer is year 'round." I remind her.

"Yo," A boys says. I turn to see the Ethan Dolan.

"You talking to me?" I said quietly.

"Yah, why'd you shave your head." He said.

"Wait what's my name?" I quiz him.

He only shrugs in respond. Wow I knew he was forgetful, but we'd been same class for an entire semester and last year too.

"That's pitiful." I say quietly while shaking my head.

"I'm sorry." He offers.

"No you're not." I said taking my seat.

"Were changing seats." My teacher says walking out of the room. I sat in the new seat, thankfully it was away from Ethan. I wouldn't have to endure that awkward tension. However to cancel out the glee I was experiencing, Grayson, Ethan's twin brother, sat next to me.

"Jacqueline why did you shave your head?" Grayson asked sitting next to me.

"My brother."

My brother almost lost his life a last year, thanks to ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia).

Until he is considered cured, in 9 years, I'm going to keep my head shaved. He will be 22 and I will be 25.

"What about your brother?"

I started to answer, but I was interrupted by the bell. Class started, I decided not to say anything else. Once class was over, I went quickly to my next class. It wasn't even a class, it was a study hall. I was all alone in my own world and I loved it. I fell asleep. When I woke up we had ten minutes left in the period. My last class of the day I had both of the twins. Honors English, my least favorite class. Yet I have the best grade int that class out of all of them.

"So Johnson. you never told me about your brother you know." Grayson said successfully sandwiching me in between himself and Ethan. The teacher never cares where we sit.

"Well my brother got cancer. I promised that I'd keep my head shave." I said, preparing myself for the awkwardness that is sure to come anytime you bring up cancer.

"Oh I'm sorry." They said at the same time.

"Don't, he is fine, but he isn't cured yet. He has to be cancer free for 10 years before you are considered cured. This is his first year, officially cancer free." I said, then the awkward silence.
