"You're a what?" The boy whispered. The girl rolled her eyes, "a vampire", she calmly said. The boy looked at her with awe in his shining emerald eyes. The silence was thick with a million unspoken questions and a million more unanswered answers. "Humans", the girl muttered. She walked towards the boy and slung him over her shoulder. With a quick tap on his dark head he was out like a light.
Why was she doing this again? Oh right, blood. The simple answers to most likely half of all vampires questions. This boy had some amazing spelling blood in his veins, absolutely mouth watering. "It's not uncommon for a vampire to take a human, even against their will and keep them for the sake of their blood", she told herself. A constant source of blood was always good to have, especially a good one. But where would she put him where he can't be drank from by other vampires? With blood like his he was sure to attract quite a few and that wouldn't be good. No, plans had to be made, a comfortable place had to be found, somewhere safe where he could heal without problems, someplace where he could play and learn and have fun and still be safe. Somewhere where there was safe company, she couldn't always be around, that would be impossible, she couldn't bring him with on hunts.
She mentally hit herself, this child was her new blood source, not her child, there wouldn't need to be any hunts.
She racked her brain until she came up with an idea, there was a place, an old farm. It belonged to her family but no one had used it for close to 100 years now. She had money, one did not go poor after working constantly for 200 years. She could renovate it, fix it and make it suitable for the boy. She'd give him animals that he could take care of, she might even let him keep the dog that she always saw him with. "Yes, I'll go get the dog, she thought. That will make him happy". "I will be careful with him and keep him from all dangers", she thought as she strapped him into the car. She drove of.

The car stopped at a house in Surrey, on a small road with neat, boring houses that all looked the same. She walked up the small stairs to the door and knocked. A man opened, fat, balding, ugly with a greasy moustache and tiny pig eyes. There was a scowl on his face.
"I have come to take something from you", she calmly said. The man scowled even more stared angrily at her. He was no gentleman and had to problem hitting someone young and peaceful, nevertheless a woman. "Nobody is taking nothing from me", he sneered at her. "I've come for the dog, and I am taking the boy as well. Quietly hand the dog over or I will go to the authorities and inform them about what you have done to the young child's body". The mans eyes widened, if so even possible seeing how small his eyes were. He grumbled something barely coherent that could have been something along the lines of "I don't know what you're talking about." His face then turned red and then purple and he glared at her. Even as stupid as he was he could see that she saw right through every word he said. "You can't prove anything", he spit at her. A disgusting smile reached his lips and he started her down with glee in his eyes. She vampire leaned forward and whispered "I have your precious boy already, it would be difficult to get him to confess the crimes that you have done to his body, you disgusting pedophile". The man raised his fist to strike her in his anger. "I wouldn't do that if I were you," she flashed him her fangs and the man backed away in fear. "Now give me the dog you pig, I'll take him anyway but the second option is far messier. She gave him a sadistic smile, showing of her lethally sharp teeth. "You're not real", the man spit at her. "Now get out before I call the police!" He shouted at her.
She gave him a sour look and by a light push against his chest he was flung into the opposite wall on the other side or the hall. Within seconds she was over him and within mere minutes his body was completely drained. She stood up, wiped her face and spit on his body. "Who's the real monster here". She then quickly walked up the stairs to find the dog. She looked into the first room on the right, the master bedroom. Clean, hardly any furniture. A large bed and a wardrobe. Clearly the man had gotten the worse of the deal when his wife left him. She looked through the room for anything of interest. Nothing. She looked into the next room, a bathroom, the room after that was clearly what had been the pigs sons room, brightly coloured letters spelling out the name had been attached to the door. D U D L E Y. Pictures of him littered the walls. Just as much as a whale as his father. The next room was completely barren apart from a few broken toys and stray puzzle pieces. The next room was an empty guest room. Nothing of interest. She growled angrily about not finding the dog, he was here. She could smell it! Right above her... An attic. She looked up and quickly found the door to the top floor. She ripped it down, she didn't need a key she was strong enough. She flew up the hatch and into the dark room. She pulled her phone out and turned the flashlight on. The room was dark, filthy and smelled like blood, urine and poop.
In the corner of the room a lump moved beneath a blanket. She approached the blanket and gently picked it up. Inside lay a thin, beaten black haired pup. She gathered the pet in her arms and scanned the room for anything valuable. On the floor laid a battered, old stuffed rabbit. The colour suggested that it had once been very pink but was now so dirty that it seemed brown. She picked it up and quickly but carefully exited the room and then the house. She out the pup next to the sleeping boy and the rabbit in his arms before she went back into the house. She scanned it for any sources of life before she set in on fire. The flames licked the house as she drove away. They would never have to return to a place like that.

They had been driving for three hours before the boy woke up. The dog had been happy to be reunited with his master and had laid still with his head in his young masters lap.
The boy stretched and looked around the car. He quickly embraced the dog before looking at the driver. Before he had time to say anything the vampire interrupted him, "I killed him", She looked at the boy through the review mirror. "I killed the pig of a man you called family. You will never have to return to him or your other relatives again. I'm going to take care of you now."
The boy shook, "are you going to kill us too?" His voice was shaky and he sounded scared.
She pulled over to the side of the road and turned around to look at him. He was young, no older than ten. His hair was dirty, his face pale and he was far too skinny to be considered healthy. "I'm not going to hurt you", she whispered softly to the child. She looked at the boy with sad eyes. The more she looked the more she could feel that sadness turn into protectiveness and determination. Maybe she didn't care about his blood, the thought of drinking from him suddenly put her off. She didn't want to drink from him, she wanted to protect him and keep him safe. In the time that she had watched him she had grown attached to him, she wanted to protect him and raise him safe and happy, into a strong and healthy child. She wanted to love him and read him stories every evening and teach him everything he needed to know about life. She looked at him and his dog and have them a warm smile.
"My name is Alicia Binns, and I'm going to take care of you". The boy smiled back within seconds, he had never had anyone take care of him and love him before and even though he didn't know this woman, he believed that she meant well. Even if she was going to kill him, he would take death over going back to that horrid place any day. He nodded happily at her.
"My name is Harry Potter ma'am, and this is Snuffles. We would love to come with you.

A few months later on the 31st of July an owl circled around the place that had once been a house. In the owls claws there was a letter, addressed to a Harry J. Potter from Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. The owl couldn't find anything and flew back home.
