I know that your father will keep us apart, I understand that. So to help him trust me I'm going off to the army. I know you will be worried for my health and sanity, but World War II is over, it's been over so I'm going to help. I'm going to be a surgeon, you know me well enough that when I was younger I would always try to help others even if that meant putting on a bandaid, so now I'm going to help people remove their appendages.

Charles, what you don't understand is that my father does like you, he likes your determination, courage, and how much you care for me. What he doesn't like is your history, he doesn't want you to leave for if you do he and I both know how much pain I will go through. While this might not make much sense but if you leave you will be gone for much longer than you think, you will be gone for more than four years, and maybe forever. Daddy predicts that a Vietnam war is coming and even if you are a nurse, because you're a male you will be sent off to battle.
