"Tell us your full name and what you remember." Says a police officer.

I didn't answer. Instead I stare at the flashing lights of the ambulance amidst the rain and focus on the warmth of the heating blanket.

"Ma'am?" She says getting my attention.

I look at her with a blank stare.

"Uh... My name is Dakota Lee Matthews. I remember getting a phone call around seven minutes after three in the morning from my friend Piper....

(A couple hours ago)

I hear piano chords play out of my phone. I rub my eyes and look at it.

"Piper?" I said tiredly to myself.

I clicked the green answer icon.

"Hello?"

My voice was husky and rough sounding.

"Dakota?" I heard a thin voice say over the phone.

"Piper? Is something wrong?" I asked as I woke up a bit more.

"I was going to ask you the same question." She said worriedly

"W-What are you talking about?!"

"I saw a tall man enter your house. He was wearing all black."

"What?" I said as I got out of bed.

The hardwood floor was cold under my feet.

"He's in your living room."

I made my way across the bedroom to my closet. I opened the door quietly. Then there was a crash downstairs.

"What was that?!"

I didn't answer her I just froze.

"Dakota?!"

"Shh! I'm grabbing my bow. I'm gonna go down to the living room." I said in a whisper.

"Dakota don't." She warmed.

"I'm putting the phone in my pocket." I said.

"Dakota!"

I slipped my phone into my picket and walk into the hallway. I see my dad at the edge of his door; my mom behind him. He held an aluminum bat tightly in his grip. I stay in the hallway while my dad makes his way down the stairs to the living room. Silence fills the air; an eerie silence. I get a little worried. Suddenly I hear a gunshot. I take off to the edge of the stairs.

My dad wasn't the one with the gun.

My mom tries to grab me, but doesn't get a hold of my shirt.

"Dad?!" I scream running down stairs.

I see the my dad on the ground, motionless. I feel a burning sensation at the brim of my eyes. I look over and see the man. He glanced at me and tries to make a run for it. I load an arrow and pull back. I let go, shooting him in the back. Then I knelt down and look at my dad. He looked as pale as a ghost.

"Call 911!" I scream to my brother.

"Hello! There's been a robbery and my dads been shot. It's on 311 Holly Lane. We need an ambulance. Now!...."

My brother continues to talk to the dispatcher. I began to cry. In about ten minutes the police arrive. The paramedics come in and take me to the ambulance. I was brought to a different one then my dad. I was in shock, but I was no longer crying. I showed no emotions on my face. Everyone came out of their houses in there robes to see what had happened. I sat in the ambulance with a heat blanket on my shoulders. I saw them bring out the man who shot my father. I've never felt so angry in my life.
