He was odd. The way he moved and squirmed. He was cute by human stadanrds, he was mostly bald, toothless, and pretty small. But he was my child, I dont know how I knew this, I just knew he was my responsibility. I was to be the one to watch over him as he grew and care for him if and when at all possible. I remember one night I was watching him lay in his crib, he was peacefully sleeping. His beautiful eyes were hidden by light eyelids which ended in thick long lashes. His small body was stretched out in a oddly comical way, and his breathing was heavy yet even. I watched him with a strong curiosity. I inched closer, completely enamored with the beautiful and fragile creature he was, when all of the sudden his eyes opened. I pulled back yet still watched him and waited for the screaming to start. A few moments passed and he didn't scream, I got a little closer and looked at the child again. Even in the dark room i could see his beautiful bright green eyes as he gazed up at me. He studied my face as if he could see me, no other humans in the house could see me in the 3 months I had been here, yet he looked at me as if he could see me. And then he smiled, he smiled up at me letting me know this complex creaure could see me. I had never seen him smile before, of all his short life, this was his first smile. And it was because of me, I fell in love with his smile in that moment. I vowed I would do whatever I had to to make sure I could see that smile everyday. This is what love is, I told myself. I was sent here to make this beautiful child smile, this is my purpose.
