Carries POV
Carrie ran around the house getting ready for work, while Kendall got ready for school.
"Mom, do we not have any tampons left?" Kendall yelled down the stairs.
"Uh, no..." I sighed. "I meant to grab those at the store. I must've forgot!" I shouted back.
"Damn it..." I muttered.
"I need one ASAP." She told me.
"Okay, we'll go to the store on the way, alright? Here, take this one for now." I said, handing her one from my purse.
Carrie was a single mom since she was 5 months pregnant. After she had Kendall, she raised her all by herself. Carries parents disowned her, forcing her to live on her own at the age of 18. After Carrie graduated high school, she got into college and studied education. She's now a high school teacher and her daughter is in 9th grade. The only help Carrie truly had was from her friends in Nashville, where Carrie took a teaching job. She grew up in Oklahoma and went to school there. But after she graduated, she was offered a teaching job at a high school in Nashville, where she now works at and where her daughter goes.
"Ready?" I asked Kendall when she came downstairs.
"Yup!" She smiled.
"You look grown. I hate it." I giggled, grabbing my purse, keys, and my lunch.
Kendall and I got into my car and headed off to the store.
"You gotta hurry. I can't be late for work." I mentioned, handing her my credit card.
"And I can't be late for school." Kendall laughed, rushing out of the car.
Once Kendall got out of the store and back into the car, we rushed off to the school.
"See you later! I love you." Kendall kissed my cheek as she rushed to her locker.
"See you later in English!" I said.
"Yay. Essays, worksheets, reading...So fun." Kendall smiled at me. "Not." She said once she turned around.
I shook my head and giggled to myself, walking to my classroom. I set my bags down and started to set the front board up. I turned on my laptop and projector for the kids to take notes when 1st period came around. It was the first day of school. So I only planned on them writing a little about what I expect from them and what we will be doing this year.
It was just homeroom, so kids were beginning to pile in quickly.
"Miss. Underwood, did you hear about the new principle?" A student, Kyle, asked?
"I heard about a new one, yes!" I smiled politely.
"He looks young for a principle." Kyle laughed.
"I haven't even met him yet." I informed him.
"How was your summer?" A girl named Gabby asked me.
"It was great! How about yours, did you go anywhere?" I asked her.
"To Florida again. But it wasn't anything new." She smiled.
"Well did ya have a good time?" I wondered.
"Oh, yeah!" She said.
"Well that's all that matters." I slightly giggled.
The bell for 1st period had rang right after I took attendance.
"Have a good day!" I smiled as the kids left my classroom.
I waited by the door as kids entered my room, looking for their seats where their names were placed. I watched as my daughter had walked into my classroom and took her seat.
I smiled and shut the door when all the kids were seated and the bell rang.
"Okay, well this is a little tough for me, considering there are 20 of you and 1 of me. So names, I'll try to remember them quickly." I giggled as I wrote my name on the board.
"Those of you who do not know me, my name is Miss. Underwood. I know, English, extremely boring. But we're going to see each other for a whole school year. Exciting?!" I joked.
When I looked at the students, I noticed one kid with his head down, who I've had last year, going on the second year.
"Come on, Chase. Pick your head up. I know, 2 years in a row, seeing this beautiful face is hard. But believe me, seeing your beautiful face just makes me wanna teach more. So get motivated so you don't see me next year." I said after I joked, seriously.
Today was going to be a long first day...
