Chapter 3




The unexpected friendship




When the last child had finally been sorted, the headmaster, Professor Weasly, gave a few start of term notices that included the 'forbidden forest being out of bounds for first years' and 'that the caretaker Crabbe has asked him to mention that the list of banned items has been extended to include fake wands and that the full list can be viewed on his office door'.




With the notices out of the way, the feast began. Large plates of sausages, pies and fries, appeared on the waiting plates. Albus piled his plate high with food, before digging in. After eating whole pies and dozens of sausages, the main course disappeared and was replaced by pudding. Apple pies, apple crumbles, ice cream and even cake appeared like the meal before.




After 3 slices of cake, 4 scoops of ice cream and 1 slice of pie, it was time to retire to bed. Lead by Teddie, the first year Gryffindors walked up marble staircases, through hidden passages until they reached a painting of a fat lady.




'Custard tart' said Teddie to the painting which swung open to reveal... The Gryffindor common room. Draped in scarlet an gold, with a warm, crackling fire and soft pouffs and armchairs, the common room looked really inviting.




'Girls dormitories upstairs and down to your left and the boys, the same on your right. You will also see that your belongings are already waiting for you' said Teddie.




Following Tom Jordan, Charlie Wood, Bill Gregory and Colin Finnigan, Albus entered his bedroom and found his trunk and owl waiting for him by the side of his four poster bed that also had the house colours of scarlet and gold.




Albus was already in his pjs, when Scorpious entered the dormitory earning glares from the others. Scorpious reached up and met Albus' eyes. Immediately he looked down at his bed and started getting changed. Albus looked around the room and saw that Bill wasn't glaring at Scorpious either, instead he wasn't looking at him at all.




Slowly Albus got into bed, wondering why everyone glared at Scorpius. Next thing Albus knew it was the morning and he was getting out of bed. Getting dressed, he noticed that Scorpious wasn't in the dormitory or common room. Albus went down to breakfast and saw Scorpious sitting alone at the Gryffindor table looking at his empty plate, Albus went to sit next to him.




"Hello" said Albus




Looking up, Scorpious mumbled "hello"




"I'm Albus Potter." Introduced Albus.




"Scorpious Malfoy" replied Scorpious shortly




"Why did everyone glare at you last night?" Asked Albus




"My grandad and dad were followers of Voldermort, and my entire family

has been in Slytherin for generations" explained Scorpious




"Just because they were in Slytherin and were followers of Voldermort, doesn't mean you have to be ashamed you are in Gryffindor and you can change what your family's reputation" replied Albus




"Yes your right" said Scorpious, and after that he was much happier.




By this time the great hall was nearly full and Albus was in deep concentration with Scorpious on how he could change his family's reputation.




When the last few stragglers had entered the hall breakfast appeared on the plates in front of them, bacon, fried egg, scrambled egg, toast, hash browns. Bill suddenly sat down on Scorpious' other side and introduced himself and asked the same question Albus did.




After breakfast, Professor Magonigal was walking down the Gryffindor table heading out timetables. Albus, Scorpious and bill received theirs and noticed they had herbology with the Ravenclaws. "Better get going" said Bill, getting up from the table, Albus and Scorpious followed.




5 minutes later, they were waiting outside greenhouse 1 and Albus had met up with Rosie since the sorting.




"Why are you with him Albus?" asked Rosie when Albus and Scorpious were within talking earshot.




Albus then launched into how he had talked to Scorpious during breakfast and how he is ashamed of his family's reputation.




When Albus had finished the class was walking into the greenhouse and Rosie didn't have time to reply before Professor Longbottom had entered and started the lesson.




1 herbology lesson later Rosie had caught up with Albus and Scorpious and explained she would help but only if her dad didn't find out.
