Tears streaked down her cheeks. Her lips were tightly pressed to keep her from crying out loud. Rain was pouring down making that tic tac sound on the steel's roof. Priest was standing right across her reading verses from the Bible. She could hear the low murmuring from around her. She ran a blurry glance around her & spotted an empty chair & took it right away.
A toddler followed her to the chair & stood next to her chair. Without noticing him she kept staring at the coffin which was on a few distance from her chair. It was raining like it had never rained before in the past 4 years in Seattle, breaking all the records. Perhaps the sky felt sad too.
Her heart felt like in a inversely proportion to all that noise of the rain. The priest moved aside to let a 30ish man replace him near the coffin. The man was blonde with bright blue eyes & a pointy nose. He had a structured jawbone which was covered under his goatee. From sitting there she could see the sadness in his blue eyes. Somehow his eyes seemed like they had lost, they looked defeated & tired but then again, grief defeats all of us. She was now looking at the man wiping her tears which had started to slip down her eyes with an increased speed. He looked his twin but they weren't twins. This man standing there with broad shoulders, wearing black & a wedding band on his ring finger was five years older than him. He had succeeded in maintaining himself anyone could tell that.
"Easy, what do I say. You were my son more than my brother. I had raised you. You always had given me a reason to be proud of. You were my universe. You were the only blood relation I had. You had been always with me to pull me up. You were a brave, strong, intelligent & a caring person. I couldn't have asked God for a better brother. I still remember the day when mom & dad died & you were here with me in this very graveyard, regardless of the reason we were standing there. You were constantly telling me to get you out of this because it felt like mourning to you..." He gave this tearful smile that could tear the mountains. " I had never thought one day I'd be here with you...with your dead body, my child..my brother.." his breathe hitched & the tears broke all the barriors. "I remember your first day at school when you came home & begged me to get you a mommy who'd pick you from school just like the other kids with parents...You no matter how much grew were always a baby to me. A funny, naughty but ambitious baby. Now you're gone & I'll be raising another baby for you. I don't know Easy...did you really think I was that responsible?" Mike moved back from the coffin, wiping his tears. He felt the uncontrollable urge to take his baby brother out of the coffin & hug him, breathe the life into him. He had given the speech in the most tearful but strong voice. He backed off a few more steps and slowly raised his eyes towards her.
She saw him looking at her from the distance. She knew she had to get up & take his place next to the coffin. But where will she get the courage to keep her from losing herself. She kept looking at him numbly, all blank. All the color drained from her face making it look deadened white. She finally started to stand up but she could feel her legs shaking badly, refusing to support her. She looked down at the toddler who was looking at her with the most blue eyes. His eyes were full of concern for her. She held his hand to keep herself from falling back into the chair. Slowly she started to walk towards the coffin. As she reached it she could see all of the people she knew too well but failed to recognize at that very moment. She lowered her eyes. In a very low voice she began "Easy...oh Easy...You were the most sweet, honest, caring, kind & a humble person. You were the very first friend of my entire life...You...you were my best friend. You were amazing Easy..I.." she pursed her lips to steady her shaky voice. She sobbed heavily & wiped her tears. "I...I am ...I..I cannot quite place the words to tell how much you meant to me...Jesus...Easy you left too early...too...early.." with that she covered her face with her hands & backed off from the coffin. She lept out of the tent.
The toddler following her all confused. "Mommy?" "Mommy do not run please..." She stopped outside the tent & looked back at kid running to keep up with her pace. She bent herself down to pick the kid up in her arms. The toddler was staring at her with an odd expression filled with both; confusion & fear. She wiped her tears & looked into his pale blue eyes, the eyes she had grown to adore. She kissed his cheek. "I love you sweetheart" she whispered in a raspy voice.
"Carly". She heard a deep voice behind her & she turned. It was Mike. He was standing right in front of her looking down at her intently. She refused to look him in eyes. With slightly bowed head she kept silent. "I am sorry". He spoke as if unsure about what to say. Carly nodded still refusing to look at him. He looked around for a minute then lifted her face with the tips of his fingers & moved closer to her. Carly looked up at him with a tear streaked face. "I am sorry too. I am so sorry..." she started to cry again. Mike pulled her into a hug. "Shhh...pull yourself together darling. It's going to get okay. Life is a bi**h". Carly pulled herself out from his embrace & gave him a firm nod.
She opened her umberalla & started to walk towards her car. As she reached it, she opened the door & sat Kyle in the seat & put his belt on. as she was about to take her seat she saw they were taking Easy's body to bury it. She kept staring at it till it got oit of vision. "Mom!" Kyle wined & with that she snapped to reality around her. She sighed heavily. For a moment she thought she was going to burst into tears but she managed her composure. She moved to take her seat...it was going to be a long run for her from now; to home & to the end of her life..
