"Hey Seul, I think there's a stain on your shirt."
Tilting her head downward to look at the said stain, Seulgi was met with a slim finger brushing up her face. Her eye-roll went unnoticed and her groan was drowned out by the culprit's erupting laughter.
"Hahaha how could you fall for something like that? What are you, five?"
"I don't want to hear that from someone who pulled such a prank on me. What are you, three?"
"I thought you would learn by now! Seulgi: 0, Irene: ... I lost count 5 years ago."
Sometimes, Seulgi's surprised her eyes are still intact, considering how many times she's rolled them during the duration of her friendship with Irene.
"If only you could say the same when it comes to chemistry," Seulgi counters.
"Hey! That's low! Don't bring up my Achilles heel!" Irene protests, pointing a finger accusingly at Seulgi.
"Yeah yeah yeah, now can you please hurry up and finish your burger so we can move on to the next store?"
The duo had been roaming the mall for the past hour, trying to find a dress for Seulgi's recital, and Seulgi's really doubting whether it was a good idea to ask Irene to come with her in the first place.
'You look like you're going to a funeral', 'What are you, a walking sunflower?', 'Seul, I hate to break it to you but... I think that dress is meant for my grandma,' and other comments of the sort were thrown left and right as Seulgi walks out of the dressing room. As much as she appreciates the older girl's honesty, it has not been of help whatsoever. Picking up the last dress to try on, Seulgi swore to rip out Irene's mouth if she chide another one of her stark remarks.
That's why Seulgi doesn't know if she should feel relief or scared by Irene's silence. Ever since she stepped out of dressing room, Irene hasn't said a thing and only stared at her. After a good minute or so, Seulgi saw Irene's lips twitch but no words came out. Only a fisted hand was held out, with a thumb pointing upward. Seulgi's mouth reflected that of Irene's as they stretch into a smile.
"Seul, I'd totally bang you right here and now if it wasn't illegal."
Aaaand Seulgi's smile faded as soon as it appeared. Of course it was too good to think that Irene would compliment her normally.
"And I would totally murder you right now if it wasn't illegal," she deadpan as she makes her way back into the dressing room. Without turning back, Seulgi could make out Irene's voice obnoxiously yelling, "LOVE YOU TOO!"
---
After the eventful shopping trip, the two ended up at Irene's place to finish whatever homework they had left for the weekend. Of course it wasn't until two hours after Seulgi managed to calm down a hyper Irene that they actually got working.
Glancing up from her notebook, Seulgi couldn't help but smile at the sight of a concentrated Irene. Her eyebrows were knitted together, presumably because of her chemistry homework. If only Irene was quiet more often, she'd be perfect.
Thinking of taking a break from her own assignment, Seulgi got up from the desk and made her way over to Irene's bed to rid the girl of whatever query she has. Looming over Irene, Seulgi's mouth could only hit the floor at what she saw. Even in disbelief, she managed to take the notebook next to Irene and whacked it across the owner's head.
"YAH, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!" Irene bounced up from her laying position and held onto the afflicted spot on her head.
"For making me think that you were cute, laying there doing your homework and all. But whoop-dee-doo, YOU'RE PLAYING TIC-FREAKEN TAC-TOE. AND BY YOURSELF TOO FOR THAT MATTER!! No wonder you're failing chem..."
"I can't help it that I have no chemistry with chemistry! And fyi, I was working on it but I got stuck on-" Irene suddenly stopped mid-sentence and smiled that dumb smile of hers, "You think I'm cute?"
Seulgi could only let out a sigh before gingerly rubbing the side of her forehead. "I rest my case, you're hopeless. I can't believe that's all you got out of what I said!"
"Because that's the only thing that matters, duh. I think you're cute too, Seul. Should we give it a try and start dating?" Seulgi threw the notebook she was still holding in her hand towards Irene's face, hoping to wipe that stupid grin off, but it missed her by a mere inch.
"I'm outta here, good luck finishing your homework on your own."
"Heeey, don't ignore me. I was being serious!"
"Yeah, and you can actually pass chem. But we both know that's not true," Seulgi said as she packs her stuff. Sensing the unusual silence, she looks up to see Irene half-glaring, half-pouting at her.
"That's mean." And as much as Seulgi tried to suppress her smile, the sight was just too adorable.
"I'm just kiddinggg, I know you'll pass. Now stop sulking and get back to work!" Swinging her backpack in place, Seulgi strode towards Irene with arms wide open, waiting for her goodbye hug. The older girl heed no hesitance and threw herself in Seulgi's arm, lingering in the embrace a liiittle longer than usual, but not long enough for Seulgi to notice.
"You smell good," Seulgi said after she pull away. The sudden comment had Irene raising her eyebrows.
"Thanks? If you want, I can try and store my sweat into a bottle for you, 'cause that's the only thing I smell of right now considering I haven't showered yet," Irene teased. Seulgi smacked her jokingly on the shoulder in response before heading towards the door.
"Hah hah, so funny. See you in psych tomorrow."
Irene lets out a sigh before smiling at the receding figure of her best friend.
