"Avalon We need to go" my mother yells while struggling to pack our bags. Fear struck over me instantly. Never had I seen my mother so scared. Her eyes lit up with terror, her hands shook and her voice trembled when she spoke. She was acting as if the world was going to end. I ran upstairs to get my little brothers, not even questioning why. All I knew is something bad was happening and we needed to leave. We jumped into the car and drove as fast as we could. I glanced back at our faded blue house wondering if we'd ever see it again. When I finally had time to breath I asked her what was going on. Without saying a word she handed me a tablet which was turned to the news channel. The news woman said there was a huge asteroid hurtling straight for the earth. The asteroid was suppost to land less than a mile away from our home. If we didn't get far enough away we'd die. I couldn't think like that though, I had to be strong, for my mother, for Logan and Jake.

I tried my best to keep my mind somewhere else. I watched the trees and bushes passing by knowing it would never look like this again. The beautiful green trees I used to climb, the blueberries I would pick . I loved those woods as a kid; I always felt strong and free out there. I remember once my father and I made a fort out there. He taught me how to make it strong and sturdy. When we were done we made a wooden sign claiming it was ours .We slept outside that night, which worried my mom. We ate s'mores and told ghost stories. Sometimes I'd get scared and he would hold me tight. He reminded me that it wasn't real and that I was safe. Ever since my father died that became my safe haven. Whenever I was sad or lonely I would visit that place. I wish I could be there now. But I can't, I'd probably be dead if I went there. Suddenly all I could imagine was a big explosion. The fort being torn to shreds. The dirt sweeping across the tree's breaking them in half and our home being destroyed in the process .We would never see it again.

I looked behind me to see my brothers cuddling their favorite toys. "It's going to be okay" I told them, hoping to reassure myself as well. "of course it is" Logan replied. "Mr. snuggles will protect us" His statement made me and my mom smile. It was amazing how he had so much faith in such a small little lifeless thing. His calm voice made everything feel normal. We weren't running from a deadly asteroid, we were just driving to the store. In a couple of hours we'd be back home, We'd put groceries in the kitchen and get ready for a nice meal. We would all gather around the table; my brothers would start talking about what they learned at school and my mother would ramble on about the new boss at work. I wish that were true , but I had to face reality. This is really happening, I'm not dreaming. I had to face reality no matter how much it frightened me.

Suddenly, I realized the newswoman had been talking the whole time. The government was working to stop the asteroid, but they hadn't found a way yet . Apparently the asteroid was too big for them to handle. Every solution they came up with resulted in millions of people getting hurt. I slowly began to notice something strange. I looked closer thinking maybe something would change. Maybe it was just my brain playing tricks on me. But it couldn't be, it was too real. The asteroid wasn't burning. It wasn't going fast enough to catch on fire. It seemed to be slowing down almost as If it was getting ready to land.
