You had been going out with Makoto Tachibana ever since you had transferred in to Iwatobi. The school had a rule that every student must participate in an extracurricular and due the time of the year you transferred the administration "advised" you to join the newly established swim team. That's how you came to meet. His soft smile and gentle ways was such a culture shock to you that it had unnerved you at first. Why was he so nice when he didn't even know you? Unbeknownst to you, he noticed that your face would fall and just look so sad whenever you seemed lost in your thoughts. It broke his heart. What had you gone through to make such a face? He took it upon himself to engage you in the swim teams activities and invite you on various excursions with the team to introduce you to town. It seemed to help but he couldn't help but notice how you would hesitate to go home at the end of the day. As everyone said their goodbyes you seemed to linger in the area. So he would stay and converse with you and as time passed you got closer and feeling blossomed. When he asked you out it was sweet, just like him. Right after practice, while the two of you cleaned up he had brought it up. "Hey _____,.... I just wanted you to know that I've really enjoyed the time we have been spending together and well, I just wanted you to know that I really care for you. If you don't mind do you think we could go out, just the two of us? What I mean to say is, will you be my girlfriend?" It shocked you. It really did. What was love? You didn't know, but just being around him made the pain in your chest lighten and you really did care for him. You had nothing to lose...or so you thought. The following week you had been invited to his house for dinner and an introduction to his family. To him it seemed only natural. He couldn't wait for the person he cared to meet his family that he was so close with. To her it was a cause of nervousness and stress, but she would go because it was for him. Makoto's family was overjoyed in meeting her. His little sister and brother looked at her with curious eyes and she genuinely smiled at them. The pure innocence radiating from them reminded her of the members of the swim team and most of all it was the same innocence that Makoto's eyes carried...and something you lacked. During dinner the whole family sat down and conversed with one another. How they were all doing, how their days had gone. Something so simple. You knew most families behaved in this manner but knowing the concept and seeing it first hand was completely different. It was the first time you had seen it in fact and instead of the happiness you should be feeling from association, you could only feel heartache. Why? Why didn't you have this in your everyday life?
