I was seven years old then. I looked much smaller for my age. Straight, brown hair, honey coloured eyes. Like my mom, Vanessa, says, none of my features have changed from back then, though eleven years have rolled.
I remember that day when I peeked into my dad's office - where he keeps innovating stuff. Like always, he was there, looking into some narrow, colourful tube.
My dad, Dr. Thomas Clint - Tom - is a very well known medical scientist in our city, Sacramento. He works at the ISR, an acronym for the Institute of Science and Research. He's very passionate about his work. Well, he never gets bored of what he does. Despite the fact that he's always innovating or researching, he spends a luxurious time with my mom and me. And for the matter, I love him very much.
Only a few days after my dad attained his werewolf ability, he imprinted on my mom. They've met on their first day at the University of Texas. And ever since, they never stayed away from each other for more than five miles, even for a single day. Imprinting, what they say, is true love. And, that, only werewolves can do.
And the seven year old me, tip-toed quietly into the room, as if making sure not to make monkeys pop out of the tube that my dad was holding. I went in and sat on the couch where my dad was experimenting. I was carefully observing my dad while he turned the tube upside down. His light brown hair tousled on his forehead into his brown eyes. When he noticed my presence, he kept the tube carefully on his desk and turned to me. I gave him a warm smile, and he beamed back.
"Oh! How was my little princess all day?" he asked cheerfully as he came over to sit beside me.
"Oh, your princess has been a good girl, but I've missed you all day. " I told him with a fake pout. He laughed out loudly, showing his canines.
"Did you? Weren't you hanging out with Lina and Meth?"
Lina and Meth are two of my cousins from Vegas. They imprinted on each other thirteen years ago. That day, they've come to visit us, before going for a party in our city.
"Yeah, but they're going to, uh, waltz." Ah, I then remembered for what reason I've went in there.
"Oh, that's nice." He smiled genuinely.
"Daddy, what's waltz?" I asked him the question I was waiting to ask.
He laughed for a moment before answering, "it's a ballroom dance, sweetheart," he hopped up and held out his right hand to me and, "May I have this dance, my lady?"he said.
I giggled and reached for his hand. I then, too, hopped on to my feet while my dad's left arm slid around my small waist.
He looked straight into my golden eyes and said, "Tri, this is a dance you do with your mate. This way, see-"and he twirled me around the white-furnished room.
"And so this is what Lina and her mate are going to do? It's lovely, daddy. "I said, as we danced slowly. I thought of the possible ways 'my mate' could look like - Donald? Panda? Goofy? Or maybe, the Beast.
As I reminisce, my dad looked at me when I put on a serious look to ask him something. And then I let out, "Daddy, when will I do waltz with my mate?"
I remember him, giving me a reassuring smile and say, "Sweetie, I believe and hope, that one day, you'll find your right mate and do this waltz in The Ball Room."
Again, I naively asked, "Who's my mate, daddy?
I saw his lips part and close and again opened to say sincerely, "Your mate, is the one who you'll love with all your heart, no matter what. Trina, after you become a complete werewolf, like your mother," he said, bringing our dance to a pause and lifted my chin with his finger to say, "the one who is supposed to be your mate, the love of your life, will imprint on you. And regardless of anything, you both will be together. Forever." With that, our dance came to an end. My dad chuckled and gave a small bow to me.
"Thank you very much, Daddy." I said, kissing him on the cheek.
That night, the little me, before drifting off to sleep, contemplated on what my dad and I talked through our dance.
'Your mate is the one who you'll love with all your heart, no matter what.'
But I love Droopy the most, I thought then. I hugged my pillow and slithered into a sweet world of dreams.
