I am running. Snow is falling. The roast I'm holding in my arms is starting to slip. Next time I planned on stealing one, I would have ii wrapped then I would steal it. The butcher I'd gotten this from was gaining on me, swearing loudly and yelling curses, mostly how sorry I'd be once he got his hands on me. I raced around the corner of the crowded market square as his heavy meat cleaver slammed in to the side of the fruit stand, narrowly missing my head. It only missed because I had rounded the corner. Normally I'd admire such accuracy, but since he was aiming for my head; admiration was scare. I hoisted the roast tighter in my arms, as soon I cleared the busy market square I could escape the butcher. Swish! Another knife flew past my head. I felt the blade tug on the material of the ratty cloak I wore, tearing its hood slightly. So close to freedom, I was already losing him. He was a round-bellied, thick-set man with a red face. He probably ate the best meat every night. And didn't save the scraps. I made a mental note to search his rubbage bin. There! I see the hole, which was one of the secret entrances, which led to our house. Gripping the roast tightly, I ran at full sI am running. Snow is falling. I see the hole, which was one of the secret entrances, which led to our house. Gripping the roast tightly, I ran at full speed, then launched myself into a slide on my back and disappeared down the frozen pipe. The last thing I heard was a black curse from the butcher. Such language!

"John, Michael! I'm back!" I shouted up the stair case of the abandoned house we called home. I walked up the crumbling staircase, looking for them. "Wendy!"  Michael cried, his thin face popped up over the railing. "What do you have there?" I asked, looking at his Indian head dress. "John made it for me. It's from your stories. The ones about Neverland."  The mention of that place sends me into a whirlwind of memories and flashbacks. His tall shadow being cast upon my bedroom wall.  The amazement of the beautiful fairies and mermaids. The joy of flight, the fear of it, too. Of his brown eyes sparkling around the fire as we danced like children. Happiness, sadness, joy, and regret tore at my heart. I had to forget so I could protect my brothers from the terrible life we lived and support them, but couldn't so they would have hope to live off of. "Wendy! What on earth do you have there?" Asked John appearing next to Michael. I held up the thick roast," Dinner!" Smiles broke out over their faces.
