Did I really just wink at her? She's probably gonna think I'm a total creep. I stole a glance in her direction, she was distracted by her dad and Remmy joking about booze and the amount of hours spent working compared to the amount of hours spent bullshitting.
"Remember when we were kids? We used to take the girls out to the lake and we'd talk all night long, except without the scotch and with beer instead!", Remmy said as he began to laugh.
"Those were the good days, Remmy. Those were the good days!", Steve replied with a smile at Remmy.
"So when are you starting?", Jules asked me. She kind of startled me.
"Today's sunday, right? Probably tomorrow if they're ready for me.", I replied.
"You mean if you're ready to be working with Remmy?", she laughed," Good luck with that! The man's as stubborn as a mule."
I laughed with her, "Ha, yeah. If I don't show up the following week, you know why."
"What's that supposed to mean? Remmy's a good guy, ya know.", she said with a straight face. Did I just make her mad? Uh oh.
"Crap, um, I didn't mean it like that. We-you were joking and I though-"
"Relax! I'm just messing with you. Your face was hilarious though. You thought I was serious!", she said laughing.
At least I'll be working with interesting and fun people for the summer. I rolled my eyes and gave her a straight face.
"I don't think I'm gonna take this job, Jules.", I told her.
"What? Why not?", she asked. Her face was adorable. Her nose scrunched up and she squinted her eyes at me, and she made her lips do this cute little pout.
"Well if you're gonna bully me all the time, then I'm not sure it's really worth it."
"Calm down you sissy. I said I was messing with you!"
I laughed, "I am not a sissy."
"Are to! A real man can take a joke.", she replied as she put her hands on her hips. So much sass in one girl, I thought to myself.
"See? This is what I mean. The bullying has to stop if you want me to work here."
"And if you weren't such a sissy...."
"If you weren't such a bully!"
"Sissy!"
We kept at it until Remmy came over and stopped us. "Now quit it, you two sound like a married couple!"
We laughed. It was fun joking with her. She had a nice smile and a cute laugh. She was just all over cute.
It's weird, I thought, I only know her name, yet it's so easy to joke and laugh with her.
I said my byes and got back in my dad's car. As I drove away, I glanced in my rearview and saw Jules watching me. She had a hopeful smile on her face. So did I.
