"I'll beat you to class!" Yells Jason, Becca's best friend. She met him during recess when she joined in with all the boys playing soccer. Becca doesn't care what others think, so it didn't bother her if she was the only girl playing soccer. All the girls in her class usually played pretend dress up or fashion shows and she was not into those things AT ALL. They were on their way to 3rd period of the 156th grade.
"Wait! I need to go to my locker to get my algebra book!" Becca explains.
"Alright! But make it quick!" Says Jason, a little anxious. Jason loves algebra and so he gets very excited to go, especially with Becca. (He has a had a little crush on Becca since he's met her.)
Becca hurries to her locker, plays with it until it finally clicks open. She rummages through her books until she finds the one that says "Algebra 1-2". Becca lets out a little sigh and closes her locker to catch up with Jason.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!!"
"We have 34.4 seconds till the bell! Hurry, lets go." Jason exclaims. He's one of those kids that has to say the exact time of the day. It's a bit weird, but Becca's used to it.
It's 5 seconds till the bell and they still have to run 20 ft and sit done before it rings. They both quickly sprint, sit down in their desk and RRIINNGG!
"We made it!" Jason exclaims grateful he wasn't late. Jason has never been late in his entire life to any class, and he certainly didn't want that to be the first.
Seeing them both run in, half of the class was staring at them like they were going to win some prize for getting there on time.
"Alright class, lets get started by turning in the homework assignment from last night." Mr. Thornton says.
"Shoot! There was homework!?" Becca asks in a very nervous voice.
Jason looks at her, that look of disappointment he gives her when she doesn't do her homework...which...lets be honest..is everyday for Becca. As Mr. Thornton walks by every row to collect the papers, he stops at Becca's desk. He does this every time because he knows that she hadn't completed her homework. Becca had once promised Jason she'd actually do her homework one day just to see the teachers look of surprise and excitement. "And what is your excuse for not doing your homework this time, Ms. Walsh? Mr. Thornton asked, obviously knowing the answer she would give. "My mom threw it away." Both Becca and Mr. Thornton say at the same time. They do this pretty much every day of their lives. As Mr. Thornton turns to the opposite side of Becca, Jason is already holding his assignment in hand ready to pass down to the basket in which the teacher collects the homework. "Thank you so much for COMPLETING your homework, Jason. What a great example you are to your..friend." Clearly he was talking about Becca, saying each word louder so she could hear distinctly.
~~~~~
"I can't believe you didn't turn in your assignment.., again! Oh wait.., yes I CAN BECAUSE YOU DO THIS EVERY SINGLE DAY!" Jason explains after the bell had dismissed them from algebra class, getting louder with each word. "Look, I'm sorry, okay? But it's really not your business. Not your grades either!" Becca strikes back. "Okay, fine. If you need help with your homework, you know you can always count on-" "I know I can, but I'm not going to! I want to do something good on my own..without someone pushing me to do it." Becca cuts him off.
And that's how the two of them get into fights, most of the time. This is why Jason should never mention homework or basically anything that goes on in a classroom towards Becca, or else she gets very irritated.
~~~~~
As Becca and Jason go through the whole school day without speaking to one another, they both finally make it to their cozy and hectic homes. While Jason slowly finishes his school work that is neatly displayed on his desk making it easy to find each subject, he gets a sudden urge to text Becca about what happened at school.
Jason: Hey Becca. Can we talk? Or text.., I should say...
Jason then locks his phone, knowing that she won't answer that fast or at all. However, 2 short and fast minutes later, he receives a message.
Becccccccaaa: Hi. Sure. I mean I guess I can start since I should be apologizing, not you. I'm sorry for pushing you and your help away. I know I'm not the smartest or most put together girl you know, but I love that either way you still stay with me. I really should take your tips into consideration, especially since some of my grades are failing and the others are on the verge of collapsing. So I'm sorry and I'd really like your help from now on and I promise not to be so stubborn about it. Friends?
As Jason reads through this, he's astounded. He never would have though he'd get this kind of text from Becca Walsh. He simply replies..
Jason: Becca, you've really surprised me. Thank you for that and I'm glad to help you anytime. Also, I'm sorry for my loud screams in school, it was probably embarrassing and I apologize.
Jason: Oh, I almost forgot to answer the question. Friends.
Becca looks up at her phone as she is carefully filling out her homework, and all she can do is smile.
