The sun pushed its way through the horizon, and she jumped up. There was no time to waste. She had to move on from here. She grabbed the few possessions she had, stuffed them into he threadbare rucksack and then she was off. She didn't have time to think about where she was actually going, she just knew that she had to go. It had been like this everyday, a silent race with time. If they got to her, it would be too late. There had been a few close calls, but that was all they were. She didn't even want to think about how bad it would be if they actually did catch her. She knew that she had something they wanted, and it wasn't one of the things that she kept in her rucksack. It was a part of her, and the reason she had to keep moving from place to place, day after day. She kicked violently at a stone and it went bouncing along the rough path. Why did she have to be the one with 'special responsibilities'? Why did she have to be the one that puts her life in danger everyday, and for what, a few special powers? She hated her 'job', if you could call it that. She wished so badly for home, for warm food, a nice hot bath, even having a good shit in the morning. Instead of luxury she was in living hell.

A sudden sound made her stop. She looked around, falling to the ground. She didn't see anything but she could sense that there was something out there.

She ran through the possibilities in her head. She was good at thinking on her feet now, it was almost second nature to her. She felt the wind pick up slightly, and then she saw a shadow. It could have been anyone, but if it was who she thought it was, she was in trouble. She had to get out of here, and quickly, but how? If she could see their shadow, then they were close enough that they could see her too, or at least if she made any sudden movements they would be on to her straight away. She manoeuvred herself carefully so that she had a bit more cover. That might give her some time to think at least. Her mind raced, trying to think of any way that she could get out of this. She couldn't think of anything. She looked down, and she thought of something. She didn't know how it worked, or what she had to do to get it to work, but it was the only chance she had of getting out of there safely and she had to try it. She stared at the area where she had seen the shadow, concentrating on safety, thinking of getting out of this situation.

After a few minutes she was worried. It wasn't working. Maybe that wasn't how it worked, maybe she had to say something to get it to work. She was about to give up when a cry went up "Man down, man down! He was just stood there talking to me and then he froze!" A small smile played on her lips. It had actually worked. She had to remember what she had done this time. If that was a use of her power then it would come in handy when she found herself in a situation like this later on. She wasn't completely out of danger yet. They were still bickering in the forest in front of her, trying to figure out why their friend had suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. She had to sit and wait for them to leave because she still was close enough that they might see her if she got up and walked away. So she just had to lay there, waiting for these idiots to leave. She couldn't even get some sleep, because she might move around or make a loud noise. So she just had to wait. Her stomach rumbled slightly and she looked down, willing it to shut up. Luckily it wasn't louder than their arguing and so she hadn't given herself away. Why did she have to be hungry right now? There was no way to get any food and she had no idea how long it would be until she could find something.

Without warning, a massive bolt of pain shot through her and she jerked violently on the floor. It was as if she was being electrocuted, she was in so much pain and she couldn't control herself. She managed to control herself enough to not cry out though, even when she was in pain she could manage to keep herself safe from them. But other than that she wasn't aware of anything around her, it was if the pain was taking her to another place, somewhere where she might not be so safe. She was so out of it that she only vaguely felt the hands that wrapped themselves around her and carried her into the forest. She didn't think about what it was or who was doing it, she was so caught up in the searing pain. The last thing she remembered was a small prick in her arm, and then she could feel the pain floating away and she felt sleep replacing it. She realised that she was feeling happy, an emotion that she hadn't felt in a long time. She welcomed it, and let it wrap around her like a blanket, and finally she felt safe and warm. Sleep overcame her and she relaxed.
